Shoe box Naits - speaker cable ?

Posted by: james n on 11 August 2017

Quick one - i take it the old Naits (1 & 2) need 3.5m min of NAC 4/5 (or LCR similar cable) ?

I suspect yes but just wanted to check.

Found the answer (yes they do) in an original user manual

[@mention:1566878603926433] - You are I believe, correct. Most/all of the 'old' Naim amps need - or work best - with Naim cable (A4 or A5), or similar (eg L*** K20).

Understand newer Naims are more 'tolerant'  of other cables.... (?)

I'm sure there was a post by a trade member a few months ago claiming that the early Naits were remarkably tolerant of 'other' cables, and generally remain stable. The implication being, presumably, that the separate power amps were more sensitive. Unfortunately I can't remember who it was!

Well, anyone who has spent time over the years in Naim's service dept. and seen the results of a NAIT 1 through 5 that has been used with unsuitable speaker cable would tell you, don't do it; stick to Naim's advice on speaker cabling and definitely use Naim speaker connectors on the amp end.

Pretty much what I'd have expected, Richard - I must have a search for that post!

My bro runs his CB Nait 2 through QED 79 cable (about 4m l) into Epos speakers- same setup since the 80s. He has never been tempted to change. I used Tara Labs rectangular solid core with mine for a few years with good results - but they were even stiffer than NAC A4/5
