Using Asset UPnP

You need to tell Asset where your music files are in its setup (refer to Asset web site for How-to's.

Have you done this in the Asset setup? If you have but Asset is not indexing them and playing what format are the files? Asset also has a diagnostic log that shows you what it's doing and you should see the issue from that...

ARC simply allows your TV to send audio onto the Atom via HDMI, so connect your TV HDMI ARC connector to your Atom (the same you would use for a Soundbar etc) and you should be sorted..... ensure the audio from your TV is set to PCM and not Dolby Digital, MPEG Digital etc on the HDMI ARC settings on the TV .. will be in TV audio setup probably

Asset has identified the files - that's all working, I'm pleased to say.  It's the Naim that's not getting the files from Asset - it's sourcing them direct from the files, hence the lack of artwork.

So, under servers, my Naim app is showing the Asset UPnP from the Macbook, but the PC as a Windows picture, not as Asset UPnP.

The good people at Naim support have just replicated this in their offices and had the same issue.  In the end they uninstalled Asset from their PC and reinstalled it - then it worked.  So I'm going to try that now.

Thanks for your advice on the TV - HDMI it is (need more HDMI ports on my TV!  But that's another issue altogether).

Hmm. the Naim app can't connect directly to files on a PC or on a Mac it always goes through a UPnP Media Server.

On the PC do you have Windows Media Player installed, and if so have you disabled it's own media sharing?
If not then the with the PC source, the Naim app may be connecting to WMP rather than to Asset.
You may be able to sort this out by giving the Asset Media Server a different name to that used on the PC.  You'll definitely need different names for Asset on the Mac and on the PC.

Good idea Huge - I've now done what you've suggested, and the suggestion from Naim as well.  I think your suggestion means that the 'windows picture', which takes me to the music files without the artwork, has now gone. 

I've just rebooted and Asset is showing 0 tracks, so I think I have to go back and do what Simon has suggested.

If you used iTunes then it keeps the album art internally in iTunes and does not embed in the audio tracks, so for example if you move the tracks to another computer with iTunes, they would have no art either...

Asset is now listing my library, but the Naim app doesn't find it.  It found it briefly, then when I clicked on 'albums' it hung and when I went back it had gone.  I'm guessing there's something I need to do with my network.

I run a Virgin Media Super Hub as a modem, with an Asus RT-AC68U as the router.

The Atom is working wirelessly, but the PC is hooked up through a homeplug.  I know that Uniti's have issues with homeplugs, which is why I'm using the Atom wirelessly.  But does the problem also cause issues with servers?

Do your 2 versions of Asset UPnP have the same name? e.g. "Asset". If so, it might be worthwhile configuring one of your Asset versions to give it a different network name e.g. "Asset-PC" so that the app will be able to differentiate between the 2 servers.

Homeplugs are consumer home network kludge work arounds and not ideal, you are better off with Ethernet connectivity .. homeplugs are essentially half duplex bridges and as such the timing of data can be affected and they can interfere with multicast discovery etc. not to mention the horrendous amount of RFI they introduce on the mains and the potentially unreliable data transfer they provide (in terms of being susceptible to other interference on your mains). Best  use  WLAN or Ethernet for connectivity and remove the variables...

Apologies Huge, too busy thinking and not reading the previous posts carefully enough.

I seem to have sorted it - I hope!  It was a Firewall issue, I think.  The Naim app is now seeing the music, and Asset has discovered a fair amount of album artwork, although not all of it.  So all I need to do now is point it at the rest of the artwork, I guess.
