Powerline Lite on Home Demo
Posted by: ink04 on 12 August 2017
I've borrowed a Powerline Lite so thought it best to ask where to optimise it best in my system.
I have a Cd5x and LP12 as sources the LP12 has a Heed Orbit 1.
I have a Naim 122x Pre and 150x Power Amp and a Flatcap.
Would it be better connected to 122x, 150x or Flatcap ?
Also, is there a typical run in time period before the Powerline Lite will come on song ?
I suspect best use would be connected to a pre-amp or source so I would try it in the 122x, then the CD5x then 150x
Then post back your results
Ok thank you, so far I have tried it on CD5x and then moved it to 150x Power Amp.
I will try it on 122x Pre Amp next.
Inky,
Not sure if the Heed has a fixed lead or not but if swapping power leads on my Roksan made an appreciable difference.

Lindsay
So far I have briefly tried it on
CD5x , Heed Orbit 1, Flatcap and 150x
The best outcome so far has been on the 150x Power Amp, so I will focus more closely on comparing the Powerline Lite on this component with the standard mains cable.
It was interesting to hear more detail when connected to the CD5x and Heed Orbit 1, there was more air and atmosphere but I did miss the tonal richness that it appeared to have with the original mains cable with slightly more heft in the bass it seems and better midrange, but I need more time to be sure of this.
Connecting the Powerline Lite to the 150x has restored it closer to the original sound but I will need some more time with to compare it with the standard cable to be clearer on the differences.
Playing a mixture of Vinyl and CD to see how it sounds.
The full fat one gave more coherence on the CD5x, higher resolution on the preamp ps (hicap on a 282 at the time) and more bass on the 250, I can't remember the effect on the Flatcap 2x powering the CD5x analog circuits (which is where I expected it to be best) but the CD5x is where it stayed. In a different system and with the Lite it may be a different outcome of course.
I suspect plug order may change the preference. Mine was, from the power in end of a 6 way, CD5x, FC, HC, 250, psc, ttps. I experimented with other orders promoting the power amp but before I got the power line, I always prefered this one.

That was similar to my observations when I tried the more expensive Powerline a few years back. I did find that it produced higher resolution and a more fuller sound on the CD5x and greater weight in bass when connected to my 150x.
At prestent I'm comparing the Powerline Lite when connected to my 150x in comparison to the origianally supplied mains cable.
Is the cable used in the Powerline Lite the same as that used in the Standard Naim Power cable that came with my 150x ?

Yes it appears to be so.
The cable and IEC plug are the same ones used in the standard cable it replaces. Only the mains plug is different.
Ok thank you for confirming this. Well there's is a noticeable difference when connected to the 150x compared with the standard cable.
In my system with the Powerline Lite connected there appears to be extra weight behind the notes, making bass to sound a little fuller than before, notice slight extra heft in kick drum and bass for instance.
Seems to work well with my system and certainly seems to show an improvement at lower listening volumes too.
IMO best on AMP's first and then rest of the system
