NAPSC

Dear all

Kindly advise if you will place the captioned device on the Fraim, not Fraimlite.  Do you think it makes no difference in sonic performance whether it was placed on the Fraim or on the floor?  Is it quite expensive in doing so?

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers,

Patrick

Mine rests under the rack on the floor

Patrick - What are you powering with the NAPSC. It's not clear from your profile ?

Just treat it the same as would any other Naim PSU. If you can get it on the rack then great, but no issues with it on the floor either. Make sure it's plugged into the same mains block as the rest of the kit.

I had a NAPSC on my (then) 282. Originally placed off the rack on the carpet and plugged into a different mains circuit from the system. That was conventional wisdom at the time.

However I later found three benefits to be had in performance. The first, and largest and most expensive, was putting a Powerline on the NAPSC.  It made such a improvement to the performance that I was really quite astonished. The second benefit, and free, was putting the NAPSC back on the rack.  If you have a 'brain' and 'brawn' rack you don't have to have a dedicated shelf for it. Just 'bridge' it across two parallel shelves.  Third, and again free, was powering the NAPSC from the dedicated circuit that the rest of the system enjoys.

I placed mine as far away from the rest of the system as the lead would allow. I took the view that Naim must have given it such a long long lead for a good reason.

However, changing to a 252 was a big help in choosing where the NAPSC should go

I think there is a lot of folk lore and mysticism about the NAPSC - its a very benign and simple 'linear' power supply - it can be located near or far to suit. I had my one right near my 282 in the end.

Some say they have found changes putting a powerline on theirs - I did this and heard no difference at all - not even a slight sonic shift - so I assume if for those who do hear changes there is something going on in the mains earthing of thier individuals setups.
