power line uk

Posted by: pino on 15 August 2017

Hello to all
I wanted a tip: I need to buy a power line cable on e-bay with uk plug.
I live in Italy and I have to put an adapter.
Do you think it can ruin the sound?

Thanks  a lot forever

The UK plug is an integral part of the design, together with the quality of the cable and the decoupled IEC connector; I would not recommend it

Hi [@mention:31696368218191947] if you're just plugging the U.K. Powerline into an EU adaptor I'm sure it would be fine.

Hi Pino,

while the UK plug on the Powerline is engineered to a high level, as the IEC plug on the other end is, I disagree with the other posts. Unlike their continental counterparts, U.K.  plugs are fused. This will lead to a higher impedance which has a good chance to impair performance compared to an unfused plug. The fuse is mandatory in the U.K. (at least I think it is), but not here in Germany. I'd even say it might be even prohibited. Chances are that is is the same in Italy. And the adapter won't make things better. For these reasons I suggest that you get a Powerline with the appropriate plug. Used ones are usually available, if not as much as in the U.K.

Oh yes, don't even think about trying to bypass the fuse in a UK mains plug.  It is there to protect the flex from what can be a very high amperage circuit.  The circuits from the CU in other countries are usually limited to a much lower amperage.

The point I was trying to make was to use whatever hardware is standard in your country when it comes to electricity. While I have no idea about the current limit in a typical U.K. home,  the 20 A available to my Hi-Fi are surely high enough not to toy around with stuff.

Quite agree.  Don't use a UK plug Powerline  in continental Europe - get the one with the Schucko plug which should be ideal for use in Italy.
