Atom into NAP100
Posted by: L_H on 15 August 2017
All,
Can you sanity check this for me please?
I'm connecting pre-amp out Atom to analogue in NAP100. I'm using a Chord Shawline with the arrow pointing away from the Atom into the NAP. The speakers, Atom, Shawline are all brand new, yet I'm not hearing the clarity that I thought I would, seems a little flat. Neat motive 3 with Chord Odyssey.
Any pointers?
thanks
I have a similar question from a customer at the moment - UnitQute to NAP100. We're thinking Naim or Chord RCA to DIN4 might work better than RCA/RCA but didn't try it yet. Also is the ground switch on the Atom floating or grounded? That might make a difference.

Will need some burn in time? The Atom alone sounds better than UQ2+Nap100 have you listened to Atom on its own?
Thanks both, the switch is grounded. I have listened to the Atom on its own too, same issue really.

Is the Nap100 new?
It's not, had it 3 years, it has been switched off since Feb though.
If the Atom, wires and speakers are new they will take a while to run in, so it's no surprise that it sounds flat. I suggest you remove the 100 from the system and use the rest for a month. Then connect the 100 and see if it makes any difference. If you use the Atom with the 100 its power amp won't be used and therefore won't run in, which you need it to if you want to make a meaningful comparison.
Thanks to all for the responses. Great point HH.
Best
Thanks to all - turned out to be a faulty interconnect.
And how is it with the Nap....does it bring anything to the party?

Hello Tastie, yes, power, weight, and to me it sounds a little richer, but a wouldn't say better than the Atom alone.
In addition its early days, speaker, I/C, Ethernet cables etc are all brand new and it's been running for 10-12 hours. The speakers need 200 according to the manual.
Being honest, I was a touch underwhelmed with at all until about 5PM today. I played all sorts of genres and thought that it was overall good but not great.
I then re-ripped some CD's on my MacBook with a new SuperDrive with DB and so far so good!
i need to be careful what I say here but many of my flac flies are downloaded from Melodi because in truth I couldn't be arsed to rip 400 plus CD's and I'm starting to think they they are not the best.
