Core 1.5 firmware update

Posted by: Gazza on 15 August 2017

Downloaded the new firmware update yesterday, no problems on my machine. Did not have the problems the update fixed, so all was well anyway. Everyone else, tried and tested the update?

Gazza, seems OK here.

Problems with downloads folder, greater than 2 tb discs not readable by windows and a few different flat problems.

The details of the release  are hidden away in the latest on the Uniti Progress Update which is a sticky at the top of the forum rooms.

Having spent a good hour or so this morning coaxing my core to back up from a USB hdd, we still need better firmware to recognise drives. After turning the core and iPad off many, many times it eventually hit on with the job of backing up.......no clue as to why. The USB drive has functioned OK before, but has also had problems being identified before, no rhyme or reason. When I emailed Naim in january, the advice was to turn off etc, not moved on since then with the firmware?

Drive handling, "music store" handling, backup and restore, are still quite grotesque pieces of code unfortunately.

Grotesque pieces of code? Show some respect to Phil and his merry men please......not that I'd know what a grotesque piece of code looks like of course

I have huge respect for Phil.  Phil doesnt write the code, or design the apps

He's probably closer to it than the rest of us though.

"the rest of us" is a multilayered onion

Posted on: 17 August 2017 by jon h

For example, there are those of us who are customers. there are those of us who are on the beta test group. there are those of us who are under signed written NDA.

And there are those of us who just buy the stuff, sit back and enjoy it without issue.  Seriously though if you feel that the code is grotesque I'm sure that that Naim would benefit from your considerable experience. I do get the feeling that the guys are being criticised what ever they do and coming from a 35 year background in R&D I know what a thankless and at times frustrating task it can be trying to deliver the lastest scientific advances....medicine in my case.

Hi Guys,

Remaining formatting issues are due to be looked at and I believe should be in the 1.6 release as far as I am aware (although I don't have a schedule for that yet) and restore logic is something that needs to be looked at too as obviously we saw issues on your setup.

I do understand that it's frustrating when you have an issue and we do take them seriously but at the same time a lot of these issues do take some nailling down as well because they don't affect everyone (and in many cases they affect a very small percentage of users which makes it increasingly difficult to nail down).

Cheers

Phil

Phil

Getting my Core to format a disc is extremely difficult. I have done it three times (first with a HDD music store, then with a SSD music store, then with a USB HDD backup share). Each time took 20 or 30 attempts and all manner of restarts etc before I was successful. If Naim were to swap my Core for another one, you can have one back that is pretty well guaranteed to exhibit the formatting fault!

I think some members of this forum might though! Yes, it is just a hobby and as my wife says when I come back with the latest black box - you could have worse vices

Hi David,

We are aware of this issue and do have a fix planned for release once it is fully tested through ...
