Naim app playlist question

Posted by: sbeaupre on 16 August 2017

If a playlist has the maximum 500 songs and I delete songs on the playlist from the NAS, the Naim app warns me songs are missing when I select the playlist. But when I try to add songs to the playlist, I get a message saying the playlist is full. Do I need to also manually delete the missing tracks from the app?

You will need to delete the missing tracks manually. It's worth checking that you have really deleted the songs from your NAS, as these playlists sometimes become corrupted, and will not play some tracks even though they are still on your NAS, and will still play if you navigate to them in the UPnP input.

Thanks very much. I assumed that was likely the case; the tracks are not available since they're no longer on the NAS, but they are stiil being counted in the playlist. Inconvenient but not insurmountable.

If you have long playlists I guess it might be a bit of a faff. Personally I prefer to manage playlists on a NAS/server, then the app sees them in a folder in the UPnP input, but depending on which server you are using, this can be less convenient than doing it within the Naim app.

Playlists on the app are not a great idea other than on a temporary basis,  liable to collateral damage sooner or later.   I might load a few on the app for a temporary requirement,   those I want to keep long term are all on the NAS.

Creating playlists on the NAS appears to be the way to go.  It looks like I can do that using Audio Station on the Synology DSM. Presumably there's still a 500-song limit, but managing the playlists sounds a lot easier. Thanks again!

The 500 track limit applies to the Naim app, not the streamer or the server. If you have longer playlists, there is a workaround - select the playlist using the remote/front panel display. You can then still use the app for volune control etc.

Interesting, I didn't realize it was a limitation of the app. Hopefully they'll change that in  a future release.
