Would you rather £20000 of music in whatever format you choose, or a NAC 552DR?

That is question is also for you, Adam!

My guess is that anyone who can afford to spend £20k on a single stereo component can afford to spend another £20k on music. I can't afford either, but thank you for making me feel frugal and responsible about my 300 DR!

How do you work that out? If you scrimped and saved and went without other luxuries because owning that bit of hifi kit, or buying that collection, means more to you than anything else, where does the other £20k come from? If it took say five years to save up the £20k, it would take a further five years to do both.

Sure that's theoretically possible. But I imagine the majority of folks spending £20k on a totally unnecessary luxury item have means. For the same reason that a working class kid could spend a lifetime saving to buy a Ferrari, but I bet most Ferrari owners are wealthy.

A Ferrari is rather different price league...  so, time for a poll!  Of people who have spent £20k or similarly large sum on a piece of hifi kit, how many of you had the same amount spare that they could have spent on music at the same time had they so wished?

Can't imagine spending 25 grand on music, or a piece of audio gear for that matter, a new Harley dresser would be my first choice for that kind of money!

Funny you should say that, except after riding the 2015 Harley Ultra I bought an Indian Roadmaster instead. Would have been a closer call against an M8 but I think I'd make the same choice again.

The 552 came later.

Well, Mr Innocent Bystander...

My prompt for asking questions often comes from reading forum posts - occasionally with humour -

A early lesson learned when getting stoned was the frequent void between what set me chuckling and what would stand up as public humour.

Consequently, I only post to the forum when I'm drunk.

I would spend 2k on a Townshend Allegri and the other 18k on wine women and song.

I certainly could not.

Well, given that this is a Hi-Fi equipment manufacturers forum I'd not read too much into electronic obsession.

Plenty of other fora to discuss music as the main event, although funnily enough most end up being somewhat obsessive in their own right.

If I didn't already have one - I would go for a 552 DR, as over the years I have purchased more music then I probably will ever have time to listen to.

But for the hell of it I would take the £20K and buy a bunch of 1st press LPs (as minty as possible) and put them away for my children's retirement fund.

Beautiful bike, congrats. Money well spent.
