Atom app

Posted by: SLM8W on 21 August 2017

When I use the Atom app on my iPad when I put it on Standby it immediately reverts to finding rooms so I have to close it down quickly otherwise the Atom will come on again. Am I doing something wrong!

Sadly welcome to what sad like to boot cycle, does it repeatedly do this for around 15 mins or longer ?

Naim take note if so your fix is not working.

Posted on: 21 August 2017 by SLM8W

Does it all the time on my iPad and iPhone I'm sure it used to close the app down once I'd put the Atom on standby. I've deleted the app and reinstalled it to no avail even turned off the Atom and switched it back on.

Even after a near enough 6 month delay, the product is still not functioning correctly.

I really want an Atom, but there is no way im going to buy one and be a guinea pig.

Jason, app is crap, but I assure you the Atom is the bollocks, buy it overlook the app school boy errors, you will not regret it.

In think whoever Naim get to beta test, they need to revisit it's not the usual movies clique, but ideally non Naim lovies

I would say get the Atom, but bear in mind the occasional app meltdown may occur and enjoy.

If it's helps I don't power down via the app, just set standby to 5 mins and leave it auto shutdown.

Please bear in mind that the Beta group was unable to test the functioning of the App with the Atom, as none of us had Atoms at the time. And yes, I did suggest to them that letting us borrow Atoms might be a good idea. We did regression test the impact of adding new Uniti functionality to the App on the existing streamers though, which is all we could do.

Could you please let us know how your network is configured?
Also which app version are your running on your iOS and which iOS is installed on your iPad?

Thank you,

Adam

I think you should consider your choice of words more carefully.

I'm also part of the Naim Beta group and I do this as part of my spare time, for which I don't get paid.

I do this so that I the products (either an app or a streamer firmware) is as good as possible - not only from the manufacturer's point of view, but also from the end-user's point of view.
Not having an Atom at hand makes it impossible for me to test how the app works with it. I can only test it on my streamers at home. As HH wrote - we did request new platform samples. Something worth considering as there aren't that many Beta testers around the world.

There's always going to be fixes I wasn't being critical it's just that I was sure the app used to close down after httmg standby now it searches for rooms. I just wondered if I was doing something wrong.

I've just tried this with my Qb. When you press standby the Qb switches off and the app shows my two rooms. This seems logical as once the Qb is off I may want to choose another room. But the Qb certainly doesn't come on again by itself.

Having the app close after putting the Atom into standby would be very irritating for anyone who had more than one streamer.

But the app restarting a product that has just been put into standby is no doubt also very irritating and I thought that Naim had fixed that a few weeks back (in app version 5.7.3 if I remember correctly).

This is part of the complexity of beta testing and indeed part of the point of it; it's very difficult to test in the lab every possible combination and situation that individual users will regard as normality.

Hi Obsydian,

I believe that you have posted your opinions elsewhere on the app and I've asked for your feedback on what it is that you feel makes it "crap" - have I missed it somewhere as I haven't seen anything from you?

Hi,

I believe that I have already dropped you an email back to you directly on this issue?

Hi,

I have your email.

The power cycle issue we are aware of (as we've mentioned here) and I'll run the laggy TIDAL responses past the software guys for their suggestions but it's not something that we're getting reported back here from elsewhere.

That's everything, yes?

That's everything your answer to each is must be just you and no one else (suggest your read the forum) and Err not heard that.

I think I'll not bother saying anything in future if this is the quality of response, no wonder the app is so bad with this mentality.

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by Klout10

Obsydian, why not be a bit more specific. It's sooo easy just to say 'the app is crap' ... mention for example three points that need to be improved ...

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by Klout10

Furthermore, I think the quality of Phil's response is very good, provided the input you give ...

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by SLM8W

I agree Naim are a reputable company with an excellent reputation be specific and they will resolve any issues.

Perhaps Slightly off topic, but did not want to start a new thread ... still Atom related, though.

  1. Does the Atom support track levelling (based on replay gain tags) on playlists?
  2. When streaming MP3 files, are you able to 'seek to play' within a track?

Many thanks

/Peter

Hi Obsydian,

I'm sorry if you feel that I haven't given you an appropriate response.

I don't think I've ever directly said to anyone it "must just be you" (blaming the user) ... it might be that when we get a report in that we've not had from anywhere else that I have said that it seems to be specific to their setup and we need to work through the issue to find out the cause, and from there determine whether we have a problem in the app that needs to be fixed that that specific install is triggering however generally we find that probably 90%+ of problems are caused by underlying network issues.

With any issue that is reported there will always be a first person to report it, obviously if it's an issue that is then found to affect most users ( which is currently in excess of 70,000 unique downloads) then it is fairly easy to see that it's likely to be an issue with the app itself whereas if we have a single instance reported (or even a couple of dozen instances reported) then it is unlikely to be a baseline app issue and so in that case we would want to work an issue through with that (those) customer(s) to identify what the problem is caused by.

In the case that we do find that there is an app issue, for example the power cycle issue that you are seeing (which has been covered elsewhere on the forums) and the app exiting on checking for a firmware update on Mu-so - both of which the software guys here say are resolved in the current Beta - then we'll jump on it and get it fixed and wherever possible have the fix out in the next software release.

Your laggy TIDAL issue is one that we're not getting reported elsewhere and we haven't seen in house so I've escalated it to the software team for their input...

Again, I'm sorry if you feel that these are not an appropriate response.

Phil
