Yes best coffee equipment around.
Widely used, it's a worthwhile and pretty cheap upgrade. I use one on my Ekos SE but couldn't describe the improvements as it's been a few years since I did the comparison with the standard counterweight. I was suitably impressed at the time, however.
The Tiger Paw Skale is the only 3rd party product I have on my LP12 (so far!).
I've used a sKale on my Aro for some time now. I love it.
When I changed to a Linn Krystal about 15 months ago I used the standard counterweight temporarily to do some comparisons with other Aro mounted cartridges. Going back to the sKale subsequently was like another free upgrade.
I recommended it highly, but you will be able to make your own choice.
I've stopped using mine but only because I' stopped using my Aro. I found it lowered the noise floor but if adjusted just right with the O rings centred in their grooves it gave very lively dynamics. It's a bugger to adjust though, a siries of overshoots until you land on the right tracking force seemingly by chance, small nudges just put the O rings off centre and it won't give its best.
Had this now for about a week:
a real headache to set up on the arm, this is for EKOS SE only
when setting up this arm it has a habit of "falling " back to the arm rest so it's very hard to establish if the counter balance weight is correct
I kind of reverse engineer this
firstly get a rough set up then set the counterbalance weight and anti skate to 1.75g as advised by the man in Leicester
then using my Ortofon digital stylus force gauge I then adjust the counterweight til I read 1.75g
in practice the above is much easier said than done
this is much harder with the Skale as it can only be moved over 1 dimension instead of 2 with the standard counterweight
after a good hour or more of getting very close then miles away- repeatedly
i managed a respectable 1.752g
set the anti skate to zero when using the balance, it puts torque on the cantilever otherwise, and the balance reading will probably be different too. Reapply the anti skate after using the balance.
Be aware that unless the C of G is level with the pivot, what you read on the balance isn't what is applied at record height. It can be a starting point and can help return to a previous setting but use your ears to find the optimum.
I have a Skale on the end of my Ecos S/E. The original Linn is in a cupboard close by. Enough said.. Its defiantly worth going for.
