Mu-so alarm clock oddity (sometimes turns off, sometime doesn't)

Posted by: Stephen_C on 23 August 2017

I'm not sure whether any others are setting the alarm clock on the Mu-so to wake them in the morning (Settings > Alarm clock > Weekday alarm > Enable, and set time, volume and input). There is no option to set the time at which the Mu-so should turn off (although it would be very good if there were). Sometimes the Mu-so will turn off automatically after half-an-hour but on other occasions it simply plays on until I put it into standby.

Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, found any solution (i.e., so that it does automatically turn off after a fixed period of time)?

Hi Stephen -

I don't know about the MuSo specifically, but the alarm function on the UnitiQute has a similar apparent "oddity"... the underlying logic is that the alarm shuts off to mute after a half hour if there is no user intervention, but stays on (indefinitely) under user control if there is. This includes adjusting the volume, in my experience. Can  you correlate a similar functional pattern with your MuSo?

As for more alarm parameter editing (aside from start time, volume level and input select), including a longer on-time before mute or a programmable sleep timer option, it has been on the feature request list for a while but I've not heard any news about whether it is on the development track or not.

Can't hurt to raise these ideas directly with Naim support... an email to let them know your thoughts on the issue is one more voice!

Hoping this helps,

Regards alan

Alan,

i have detected exactly the same behaviour as you. Any user input after the alarm has come on ( e.g. Volume control) will cause it to plays continuously. If no user input, then it shuts off after 30 minutes. Or is it the other way round ! !  Goodness knows why. Agree your observation that additional features would be useful ( e.g. A sleep function like every phone has), and cannot be very difficult to implement....

cheers

Thank you both for your comments. In my case there's no manual intervention after the alarm setting turns on the Mu-so. It's just that sometimes it turns off after 30 minutes and sometimes it doesn't...which is a little baffling.

I'll a polite feature request, cross-referencing this thread.

Sorry - I meant, of course, I'll submit a polite feature request...now done.

I have experienced the same on my qb without thinking about it. I think the behavior of not going to sleep if you have interacted with the unit before 30 minutes makes sense. You are awake and will most likely keep on listening to the program. For me this is a small issue or functionality that could be enhanced sometime in the future.
