Internet Radio not working with new Virgin Media hub

Posted by: Moggyman on 24 August 2017

Hi,

I installed a new 3.0 hub yesterday and went around the house reconfiguring my devices to login to my new network. All devices appeared to connect fine and the signal strength is reported as top notch by the router itself. I can see all my MAC addresses in the router config and all would seem to be well. However, I have a Naim Unitilite which I use internet radio on and that feature has stopped working. It also can't sync it's internal clock with the Net. I can browse via wireless to music stored on a NAS which is hard-wired to the hub (it seems slower than before but does get there eventually) but the Naim cannot see the outside world.

Anyone experienced similar out there?

Cheers

I found a setting in Kodi to delay/advance the sound during playback. It's a bit hit & miss but seems to do the job. Thanks for the advice. You learn something every day, if you're lucky. My hub is behind my computer desk in the dining room so I only see the front panel. There's a wooden panel partition on the other side of it so it's a bit snug but hasn't upset my wi-fi signal any. I know that VM advise that the router is positioned on a pedestal in the centre of the living room to be free of clutter but hey-ho. I only move the desk out to install/fiddle with cables or if the cat has batted one of his toys under it and is scrabbling around under my feet trying to get at it.

It's a good job these forums exist as I've now discovered just how dire VM support has become. It used to be very good when the company was Eurobell (yes, I'm THAT old) but as it's transitioned from Eurobell to Telewest and to Virgin Media, the support has got worse than dreadful. I tried calling them yesterday, got cut off twice before I spoke to someone, cut off again just as I got through and then finally when talking to one of their 'experts' in the Indian sub-continent. I had a voicemail telling me that she would call me back within the hour but I've not heard a peep since. One of my job functions is tech/customer support on a piece of software and I've been in the game (I said 'in' not 'on'...) for over 30 years. I wish I could give them some training on how to support customers properly. These products aren't cheap and quite vital to people in this day and age - they need a slap to make them realise that and to get their standards up. Sorry - bit of a rant there but poor customer service makes the red mist come down.

Thanks again to all for your help.

Cheers

If you dial 152 rather than 150 for VM support you go quite quickly through to their technical support people and largely avoid the first layer of triage which is all about "have you tried turning it on?" "Ok then have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Also the VM status page is another useful way in and occasionally does tell you something useful, although one of their guys did tell me once that when it says the issue will be fixed within a week, that reflects the level of priority they have assigned to it rather than that they have a week's worth of work to do.

We lost broadband intermittently here off and on for two months last summer and this turned out to be an obscure fault which was that an amplifier responsible for up to 500 homes had gone very noisy whenever it got warm. It took a long time to track down and they had to replace it. And because there were only a hundred or so customers actually affected, it was priority 3, for which the SLA was seven days.

best

Ah, 152 - cheers, I'll make a note of that as the initial menu options and the 'Switch it Off/On' crew annoy the bejeesus out of me. I used to get a similar problem here but (touch wood/pray/offer a sacrifice etc) it hasn't happened in recent times. It used to be that some street box in the locality would get too hot and keel over but it would seem that VM have sorted it. Either that or someone has nicked the cabinet doors for scrap
