Naim entry level gone

Posted by: Barratana on 25 August 2017

Hi all,

I was looking into Naim homepage new Nova, and found that equipments like NAC 172XS, NAC 152 XS and Nap 155 XS, just been removed, does this means that the lower end combo is now the 202/200?

172XS no longer exist?

They need a DAC V2 with an analogue input as well as the digital inputs!

I'd imagine that whoever manages the website is making some changes.  It happened last time and some pages temporarily vanished before being reinstated...

So Richard, just a webpage redesign, or they are really coming out from Naim line of products?

B, I don't know. Sorry.

I thought the products that B has listed were removed a while ago.

Strat, in response to your post reporting that the pages for Mu-So, Nait 5Si, DAC-V1 etc.. were missing.  Look now and they're all there, so must have been a temporary blip while some site changes were made.

Yep, that´s my impression too, so basic combo start at 202/200, or are we going to see new products?

Richard I merely serve to confuse! I meant that the products I listed were the current entry products.

Maybe Naim Entry Level is now Uniti ... it somehow makes sense to me ...

Yep, the 152,155,172XS are all shown as discontinued in the Product History section.

Ah, OK Strat.  Yes, it was a bit confusing.

So...  Naim entry level, above the Mu-So and Mu-So QB, would be either an ATOM or a DACV1 and NAP100, or a NAIT 5Si with either CD5Si or other source of your choice.  Then up to either a STAR or perhaps a NAIT 5xs and ND5xs.  Yes, the NAC152xs and NAP155xs went a little while back - I guess it made sense as they probably weren't really selling enough and the success of the NAIT XS and Supernait (not to mention the Uniti and Superuniti - now STAR and NOVA) didn't leave much room at that level.  Still, there's plenty of choice depending on your priorities and which way you wish to go.

Methink 172xs has always been since its introduction a seriously compromised design and the worst component ever demoed.

On the other hand, the 272 was a surprise, and having experienced Naimers that change supernaits, and 282 for this one says a lot.

I disagree, I was very surprised how good a 172/200 sounded when I heard it a couple of years ago. It certainly sounded better that the Superuniti I had at the time, and I can see it becoming a great second hand option.

Ah, being a 5si combo owner myself this does tend to make me feel much better and have decided to walk around in a bubble with my tongue firmly in cheek, as if I know something no one else does.

That's not a combo, it's an integrated, combo is a pre/power combo.

Yep, sorry, you're right of course, thanks for correcting me.

I was meaning the CD & Amp as apposed to the all in ones or the pre-powers.

I'll get me coat.

I too disagree, and firmly agree about the SuperUniti. I regret the UnitiLite, though. Have never owned one, but I first heard the S-400s driven by a UL, and it was an almost perfect marriage, safe for some still to run-in treble. A nice, old school sound with an irresistible cheekiness and some excess brightness that could have saved more than a modern, sleep-inducing costly speaker from eternal boredom. Too bad. But we're doomed to be bored, worried and sedated alternatively.
