Naim App Low Resolution Compressed Artwork

Posted by: Alley Cat on 25 August 2017

As an older topic is locked thanks for the comments that helped me solve this issue on my iPhone requiring me to login to the WD NAS using port 9000 and setting the iPhone and Uniti Atom to 'Naim Audio Streamer' types under the Media Receiver list in the Sharing menu of the Twonky Server.

Resetting the Naim app image cache didn't help until I also did so in Twonky and restarted the server.

The Naim app just displays what it's given:  Give it low res artwork and it displays low res artwork - hardly the fault of the Naim app.

Thread title should be "Twonky Low Resolution Compressed Artwork"

100% Huge,  app displays only what tWonkey sends it.   A friend dumped tWonkey for other reasons & then he realised how poor the art was.    Alley Cat,  do you have UPnP Compatibility Mode set (checked) in Input Settings>UPnP, it should not be set as that gives poor art.   It would be helpful to see a screenshot of this low res art   ..............  this is what I get from a 600x600 image

Mike, can you help with these questions please?

The image example above, did you add this to the directory with the audio files on the NAS or did it come down as part of the download of the album? Secondly, your file type is WAV, I'm therefore assuming this is downloaded content?

Thanks

M'Lud,   the art came with the download. I bought it from HighResAudio as a FLAC & as I'm all WAV (& DSD)  I converted it with dBpoweramp to WAV.      TBH the app display doesn't improve that much with art bigger than 500x500, for sure the diff between 1000x1000 & 1500x1500 is not visible on my iPad Mini,  it might be better with a full tablet sized screen.           Also related & valid w.r.t. the question is my Synology NAS is running their own UPnP 'Media Server'

Thank you my friend! That is exactly the set up I'm running -  you have answered them perfectly.

Quite so, though I suspect any new users may search fro Naim app in this regard not realising that Twonky and its configuration may be to blame.

I'm away from home for the weekend so will check when I return.

Just to clarify problem is fixed after tweaking Twonky.  Appreciate it may not be the best option out there but it's one I already had.

Artwork on iPhone was very compressed to the extent text was pixellated making album info hard to read.  Source artwork was very high quality usually from Qobuz (around 1200x1200 or so from memory).

Easy to jump to conclusions that the Main app is to blame and saving space by recompressing images until you know otherwise.  Older audio streaming options I had generally did not show artwork.

For the the Synology users, this improves the image for larger image requirements.

Indeed many forget, the UPnP control point app is for the most part simply a glorified web browser.. it can only work with what it is given by both the media server and sometimes the end point...
