core data restore

Posted by: jon h on 28 August 2017

just tried to do a restore using new app, and 1.5 firmware

completely cattled. Core now believes it has three internal hard discs.

Lost for words.

Naim seem to have put core on very low commitment, and moved on to the next problem. Although overall the core delivers,  still have problems on cd ripping I originally logged in January, and cds in their hands in May!

Jon, with all respect ... this is not really helpful to anybody isn't it? Why don't you contact Naim directly?

<hard stare>

Sorry, I don't get it ...

He's objecting to you telling him off.....

I have been reporting these issues to naim since last year

Posted on: 29 August 2017 by Klout10

I understand your frustration, but I have no clue if posting these isseues here would speed things up ...

It might warn other users to take appropriate caution.

Still not helpful, sounds more like axe grinding to me. I have a Core and have no issues with it at all so clearly what you're experiencing can't be common to all  Cores.

Jon has as much right as anyone to be annoyed when products don't work properly and posting is a way of venting.

Sometimes I think Jon thinks he has a greater right than most but I might be misinterpreting his brevity for a sense of entitlement.

Am I missing something completely why is John not allowed to post his negative experience with a Naim product on here.  So people are only allowed to post postive glowing reports about Naim products on this forum and also one of Naims main selling points is their service department so if someone is having bad experiences I for one want to know about it.

Ok because he is a critic/member of the press????

I paid full retail for my core through the always excellent Peter at Cymbiosis. No special deal, I'm a customer like everyone else.

Not at all it's just that along with others I don't find brief vents that helpful and along with other consumers he has a right to return goods which are not fit for purpose. It would be good I think to hear Naim's perspective on this and like many others I've normally found  them very helpful in the past.

Yes I am aware that this gentleman contributes to Hi-Fi Critic as I am a subscriber. In fact I purchased the Core after reading the recent review. Unlike other contributors to this and that other excellent journal Hi-Fi News  I am not that  familar with his credentials as a hi-fi journalist.

It seems strange though that the same device works well for some but not for others so perhaps ignorance is bliss

Given the technical variables at play in a machine like the Core I don't find it strange at all that there will be some that perform perfectly and some that exhibit issues. Most of us (or our employers) pay a small fortune for our cars, and yet I wouldn't like to estimate the percentage that give problems from the 'get go'.

As per one other poster, of particular interest is not the fact a fault has occurred, but how speedily it is addressed by Naim. Please keep us updated Jon.

The review of core was by martin, not me

The review included some of your comments as I remember.

It's not just about how quickly Naim can fix something. With networked products we often see things that presumably Naim haven't seen and which only some users experience. Sharing what we discover is a good way to help each other and a way for Naim to judge the extent to which an obscure issue is becoming a general problem.

I haven't had a reason to try to restore my Core from a backup, but knowing that Jon ran into issues doing that is helpful to know. Jon has also mentioned issues associated with formatting discs. This is a problem I have seen several times myself, and on the forum too, but on the other hand a friend with a Core didn't have a formatting problem at all.

I really don't care whether he's a journalist or not. He knows what he is doing and so his opinions are interesting and I hope he keeps posting good and bad, whatever he thinks is useful.

best

David

I was quoted in it. It wasnt my review.

I never said it was. A good review though which helped inform my purchase decision.
