Naim App delay

Posted by: JSH on 29 August 2017

If I connect to BBC Radio3 using the Naim app the transmission is about 7 seconds delayed compared with connecting through Bubble UPNP using MinimStreamer (ie Bubble/Minim is quicker).  Why is this? I can only think of some sort of buffering.  Do I need to adjust anything?

Thanks

If you are streaming the BBCR3  HLS stream, it is delayed by about that long compared to FM. This isn't anything to do with Naim. It's at the BBC end and it's always like that.

The BBC FLAC trial of R3 lossless at the moment sounds fantastic (you can read about it in other threads in the forum) but the delay is much longer, about 2 minutes I would say.

Many thanks David.  No, I am not comparing FM and the BBCHLS stream, but the Naim app and Bubble/MinimStreamer both taking BBCHLS. So, strange

I will look for the FLAC trial

Yes it is strange. I can't explain it.

The FLAC trial quality is really stunning so worth an explore while it's still running - only a week or so to go (until the end of the proms basically.)

Thanks.  I've added Simon's beta in Bubble to my BBC Radio folder and will listen to tonight's Prom all being well

Hmmm. Can't get Simon's beta to work with Bubble here. MIME issue error714.

What is interesting is that the Minim feed is fuller than the Naim app one which sounds thin and more distant by comparison.  Probably stream options or transcode I guess

Simon Nash is Minim, and that's what I've been using to try the FLAC feed....unless I'm missing something obvious!

No.  that's the Simon I was referring to as well.  But I can't get it to go.     Not the ubiquitous Simon-in-Suffolk

He's hardly ubiquitous, he's in Suffolk.
