5-pin 4-pin DIN lead
Posted by: ayisgroovy on 31 August 2017
Hi - I wish to upgrade from HiLINE 4-5DIN and wondered what the upgrade to that is as there is no SL version. This is for the link from SupeCap to pre on a Superline setup. Suggestions please......
I wonder why Naim hasn't produced an SL version? I also wonder if they've ever thought about upgrading the wiring looms in Burndy cables? Not sure what improvements that would bring so more a case of curiosity than anything else!
I would also be interested in other experiences with non-Naim 4-5 pin DIN for a Superline.
I am hoping to have a dem of Chord 4-5 pin DIN latter in the month so will report back.

I used a chord signature tuned array to very good effect and then a chord super sarum which is outstanding
remember this is the 2nd most important cable so it's worth looking at the other one too
also I'm using a chorus reference to very good effect although due to forum rules I would have to kill you if I told you what I'm doing with it, or someone would kill me, something like that
in general with the higher level chords I've found initially they can sound a tad bright but this settles after a week or 2 - that is for S/H & ex dem, new will probably need longer but well worth it

Hi Lyndon,
This is for your Superline, yes?
What difference did you find compared to the Naim standard or Hiline 4-5 DIN?
Richard
The Sarums had the biggest impact obviously
with the Sarum especially the instruments have a more realistic sound i.e. Instruments not Hi-Fi, similar to DRing a supercap
there is more frequency extension especially on the bass, every cable I add the bass seems to go down even lower to new places
there is also the micro stuff, play a record and now there's a lot of very small details you never heard before, these all add up to "it's like listening to the record for the first time "
this applies across the board but source first principle is where most gains are had, especially the tonearm cable which puts Naim out of the game if you want to retain the recommended synergy
speaker cables was a good upgrade but I was doing 1 pair at a time so each upgrade was kind of disjointed, after doing the first pair it was obvious I had to do the other 2 ASAP, I had all 3 done in less than 4 months
each cable was a bigger uplift than swapping 2 olive supercaps to black DR versions

Good questions!
I imagine the Burndy cables would be a bigger challenge, but I can not think of a good reason why Naim have overlooked the 4-to-5 DIN!
I would buy one today if it were available.
I guess they either had technical issues or it did not sound as good as the Hiline.

...... and some prefer the Lavender to the Hi-Line 4-5 pin DIN
True.
