Power usage by others affecting sound

Posted by: Consciousmess on 09 September 2017

I'm pretty sure most of us claim their  system to sound better at 'some time' during the day, but we all know the multifarious factors (work day over; kids in bed; fully fed etc.) and these are aside from the key variable I ask: others in our neighbourhood using electricity. And I predict this is the most relevant for most of us. I think.  Therefore, when more of our neighbours use electricity, sound quality should go down, yes?

BUT in the evening, I personally think my system sounds the best.  How about you? As that contradicts the 'more power usage hypothesis'!!

I don't hear any change in SQ during various times of day that could relate to a power distribution loading issue.   I went through an exercise a few years ago that might hold some clues;  voltage variations is an indicator of distribution system loading & a group of about 100 people in my village measured voltage at specific times. Individuals with the largest variations reported from 225v to 245v & the drop in voltage coincided with expected load peaks such as mealtimes.  I had a very small variation (the smallest in the village) of around +/- 5v

I just live down the road from one of our villages church. When the bell ringers get busy, I swear imaging takes a step further from the speakers.

So any issues with power surges ....is due to the Torys??

I wouldn't worry to much when your next door neighbours have got electric cars drawing 48 amps on a fast charge I doubt if you'll have enough power left to light up the Naim logo let alone listen to any music?

I blame Tony Blair     Seriously folks,  they're all to blame.   Starting in the 70's a toxic mix of no investment, poor management & the unions set numbers of household names on the rocky road.  Heath tried a few ideas to keep them afloat,  yes the Tory's even tried nationalisation.  Then the same & worse continued with the various old labour debacle governments,  then Thatcher denationalised them,  some survived, some didn't,  finally the decline carried on under New Labour;  the mftg sector's workforce dropped from 4.5m to 2.5m under the TB government,  manufacturing was effectively abandoned in favour of financial & business services & during that time a lot of famous UK companies & brands were sold off to foreign organisations or disappeared.     So its Tony Blair who's to blame for the daily SQ declines,  which I don't get.

I personally like to listen very late at night and into the early morning hours after midnight, I honestly believe my system sounds better.

In that case TB should be brought to justice, for crimes against hi-fi....!!!
