2017 UCI ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Posted by: Mr Fjeld on 09 September 2017
Yes, we have far too few threads about cycling in the padded cell. And here is another.
The world championship is taking place the next weekend in my hometown of Bergen, and will last for over a week.
I hope the moderators will allow a link to the official site of the championship: Official site of the 2017 Cycling World Championship
Looking Sagan to go for #3 in the men's RR. He's pretty much the only cyclist I "follow".
I am with you Winky with Sagan.
To win 3 jerseys in consecutive years would be incredible and historic.
Anyway he needs something big as by his standards it's been a pretty low key season with his classics results and the TDF ejection and not riding the Vuelta.
Fantastic that Chris Froome has won the Vuelta - well pleased for him

Can't help thinking that Froome deserves a knighthood too now ...
Here's hoping our national team will do well, and especially Edvald Boasson Hagen who seem to be in good form these days - and Alexander Kristoff too of course.
I really hope the weather will be nice so you can enjoy the view of the town and the coast which is fabulous. I'll be using my bicycle for about 5 km of the course during the week on route to work and back. I will probably set my own records now that the cars are banned.
Had a great day today as I was lucky to find a spot right after the finish line in the Women's Team Time Trial. Lovely weather, happy people, a beautiful town and great athletes makes it a day to remember. I only brought a 50mm lens today and hoped it was sufficient. And it was - almost. Some of the photos are cropped, which I normally won't do for several reasons. Still, I'm fairly satisfied.
I wish I could have stayed for the men's race but there wasn't time.
Hope you like the photos!
The winning team; Team Sunweb. The Silver and Bronze teams are also in the picture

Great to see Annemiek van Vleuten win the gold medal. After last years horror crash in Rio, she’s lucky to riding, let alone becoming world champion.

Yes, I guess she's worked on her cornering skills. The poor line she took that caused the crash in Rio was very unusual for a pro cyclist.

Thanks naim_nymph - and thanks for posting the program, a good idea!
Work seems to get in the way of watching the events directly, but the Men's race on Sunday will pass nearby. I'll try to find a nice spot and take som photos.
Todays Men's Elite Individual time trial course consists of 2 laps of a circuit around Bergen, and then includes a 3.4 km climb [average = 9.1%] to finish up Mount Floyen. Total distance 31km.
The course also includes some cobbles, wet roads, possibility of rain, but a fantastic spectacle : )
Oh, such a great race so far! Not the average relatively flat time trial but a fantastic course with a great finish at the Mount Fløien. A lot of people out cheering the riders on! Looking forward to Boasson Hagen soon to start.
No medal for Bassoon Hagen, but still a nice race and very promising for Sunday's race. Chris Froome is out not but unfortunately it's raining. Not ideal conditions.
Looking forward to watching the Women's Elite Road Race today [Saturday]
BBC RB1 [Red Button] Freeview Channel 601 12:20 - 14:30 [UK time]
Saturday 23 September Distance: 152,8 km Length of circuit: 19.1 km
The course is 8 laps of the circuit around Bergen. Will be a good spectacle for the fans who can watch them pass by 8 times : )
After winning GOLD in the Women's Elite Individual Time Trial on Tuesday, Annemiek Van Vleuten will be hoping to do the double and win again!
As always Deb's thanks for posting the info - will be watching the men's elite road race on the red button in an hour.
Hopefully posting this evening about a historic Sagan win - fingers crossed !
Beautiful scenery.Just looks so clean !
Looks like a great race so far. Here's hoping Evald Boasson Hagen will do well.
I’ve been watching it on Eurosport since 9 am, only another 3 or 4 hours to go. (Grass cutting will have to wait).
I hope Sagen, doesn’t win it, I’m looking forward to listening to his moaning and whinging when he doesn’t, usually very entertaining.
The womens race highlighted the importance of having a strong team. My moneys on a Belgiun, but not one of the favourites, they’ll be marked men. But, the race is wide open, riders who like to attack, such as Luis Leon and Steve Cummings would have a good chance, although bizarrely Stevo isn’t in the team.

It certainly is a pretty little city. (What's the "red button"?)

Something to do with a button [that is red] on some remote controls, and when pressed directs you to the action.
I don't have this special 'red button' on my remote [the only red button i have is the off switch]
If you have Freeview it's 601 channel, however it's currently being shown LIVE on BBC2 now - in the UK.
On the last lap as i write - looks like it's going to be a bunch sprint finish...? : )
Sagan. 3 in a row.
Brilliant - So happy for Sagan and his Slovakian fans out in Norway
Well done Sagan and Kristoff! It wasn't quite enough today for Kristoff. Looks like he was cathing up just before the finish line. The photo shows just 30 centimeter or so.
