Standmount Speaker choice for Supernait 2

Posted by: johnnnyw on 11 September 2017

Hi, I'm currently using a pair of Leema Acoustic Xero's with my LP12, CD5 XS and Supernait 2, I've had them for several years now and have been very happy with them but am now considering an upgrade.

I'm looking for something with a little more bass and better detail at lower listening levels, the Leema's only really perform well with the volume cranked up.

Budgets around £1000-1500

Any suggestions?

The PMC 25.21 are slightly beyond your budget, but I have seen them ex-demo just within your budget. I really like the new 25 series -- have the 23s myself. Very detailed and a fine bass. Not too much, just about right. Generally, the 25 series speakers are nicely balanced. The 20.21s are quite a bit cheaper, but lack a bit refinement when compared to the new range.

Neat's SX3 aren't as detailed as the PMC, but have a very fine top-end in my view. I would certainly recommend listening to these as well. But, to be honest, I can't recall their bass. Getting older...

ProAcs get praised here a lot. And the Tablettes are great, little speakers when one has space constraints, or for a second system. But I didn't get along with their larger stand mounts. The DB1was a bit dull... The floorstanders though are a slightly different stories, but that is off topic...

It's pretty funny how each person can hear the same speaker and come away with totally different views of their performance.

To be honest, I don't  think I've ever heard a Proac speaker sound dull, ever. I would guess that the XS2 was a little outclassed by the Proac DB1. it is after all from their Reference line and may need a finer amp to show what they are capable of.

I would recommend you listen to some of the Proac standmounts, SM 100's, the Tablette 10, or the DB1's. I think the SN2 would be more than capable of making the best of those fine speakers. Also, check out some of Dynaudio standmounts, the Excite line and the Emit line are very fine sounding speakers.  Just an opinion.

How about the PMC twenty.21, which are very good, especially with the dedicated PMC stands? Other than that the ProAc Tablette 10 looks great, though I've never heard them.

These would stretch to the upper limit of your budget, but Dynaudio special 40's are out of this world good.i now have a pair running off my system for a week now,I also used to own an SN 2,these guys appear to be just as easy to drive as the Focus 160's I used with my SN 2,and that combo was stellar...highly recommended!(special 40's).

I heard a pair of Russell K 100s sounding great at the Signals new venue launch recently.

Hey. See if you can find a pair of sh B&W PM1 including stands. PMC DB1 gold or TB2i are also worth a look.

A SuperNait 2 can drive speakers above your budget ... why not wait a little longer?

Ryan R-610. If they're available in your area.

I have owned these little Leema Xero and they are in fact very good, maybe I shouldn't have sold them on but thats it.

They can easily handle your amp and much more, only main downside imo were beside the lack of very deep bas and that they are biwire only, not really possible to disconnect inside.

Maybe keep them adding a BK sub and Flatcap to cd source will provide just what needed ?
