CD player for SN2

Posted by: Boaz on 23 September 2017

Hi all,

After purchasing a new SN2 from the Israeli dealer, I'm wondering if I should also replace my cd5i2 player.

Any thoughts or advices about upgrading to a higher Naim CD player?

I have a large collection of CDs, so no intentions leave the cd format. But still, maybe a Naim HDX is also a possibility?

I also have the potion to get a secondhand Ayon Audio CD-5 Reference for a decent price.

Thanks!

Clearly you don't like Tom Waits.

My CD5si is a fine player on itself but definately not in the same league as my SN2, even less compared to my NDX. Because of the unbalance by the end of the year i’ll be upgrading to a CD5XS. I know that a CD2 will more in line but i don’t want to put a lot of eggs in the cd basket anymore. Had the cd5xs on loan for a couple of weeks already and liked it very much.

With an NDX why do you even need a CD player? For the price of a CDX2 you could have an XPS.

I guess I still have a soft spot for physical media ;-)

Rip 'em and stick 'em in the loft. Horrid little things.

From my experience I reckon it's less the same.

The only similarities would be they are all called cd players.....

CD players don’t sound the same. It’s easy to hear differences

I moved from a CDX2 to an HDX.  Never regretted it.  The convenience of the HDX (ripping, storage, playing, serving) is addictive.  If you go this route and are handy with networks get the SSD version with a NAS.  Otherwise the HDD version is your best bet.

Why spend big $ on a CDP when a cheap transport + good DAC probably a better result?

tried a lot of transports/digital out put cdp and except the cyrus signature they all seemed to be very close in performance. It is no issue now    streaming comes before cds.

A large CD collection and if you insist on using CD I would buy the best CD player you can afford and if funds allow go for a CDS3 then look no further.

I only play cds so no need to consider Streamrs....

Maybe HDX, are they still making them at all ?
