Cannot see my Melco

Posted by: notnaim man on 25 September 2017

Everything has been going well, I am happy with the sound etc.

When I first set up with a Win 10 PC, Norton, I had to go into the firewall, identify the Melco by name and ip address. I could then delete files, add cover pictures and so on. Then the internet disappeared for a day, I switched off the router/wifi and on starting up again the ip address of every item had changed. So I delete the entry in the firewall, add the new ip address and now it doesn't matter which browser I use, I get a cannot be found or similar message.

I gave done a reset on the Melco, then back to allow files to be read.

Any suggestions please?

Yes, I have a suggestion, don't use Norton!  There are much better internet security packages that use fewer runtime resources.

Norton came free and I only stuck with it because of so many problems with AVG when Win 10 was installed.

I have tried disabling Norton, with no change.

Try the Network Analyzer app, if it's as simple as not knowing the Melco's IP address.

I also have norton but no issues with that. While I have separate networks for music and my main computer. When I couldn't find the Melco in the past a restart of my computer on the network helped and resolved the problem. Did you by accident set the Melco to be not accessible anymore from another computer. I think it's called CIPS setting. I normally have that on out to have an even better sound. But if you need to delete files you have to switch it on in he settings of the Melco.

Windows comes with Windows Defender;  has that been correctly configured to work with Norton ?.  I have McAfee as my main security provider & Defender as a back up.  Defender should be set to work with another security system (firewall) for periodic scanning & background monitor.    I'm not saying its the answer but worth checking it out as PC can get confused with two security systems in conflict.

I would be a bit concerned why your router changed all the IP Addresses,  I turn mine off every time I leave the house for more than a few days which I do quite regularly,  it always reboots to the same DHCP controlled addresses.      What make/model do you have ???

The IP address of the Melco should be showing in its display. Is it?

The PC is an HP model and has an overlay on network Analyzer, it says everything is OK.

The setting to let the PC see it and add/delete files is SMB Sharing and that is "On".

The router is a TP-Link TD-W8968

yes, the IP address shows on the Melco screen

if I go to device manager; digital media devices, open the properties window and the events tab, it shows the device installed and then the message - Device SWD\DAFUPnPProvider\uuid:55076f6e-6b79-4d65-6478-dcfb025a149a requires further installation.

Unfortunately I don't understand this.....

There is a ‘friendly name’ above the IP address in the Melco screen. If you click the Windows button on your home screen (first on the left along the bottom) and then type \\friendly name (e.g. \\N1-1134 in my case), the root directory of your Melco should come up, and you should be able to progress from there.

I used to have discovery issues on my network; when my tablet reported "No Rooms Found" I sometimes used to show it the 272, using it's camera, with the comment "See, it's there!"
