New iOS app

seems there is a new iOS app. V5.8
includes “improved ripping monitor” apparently
no mention of this version on the updates thread?

Same experience. I waited a few days for 5.8 to appear as an update on the App Store but this hasn't happened so far. Anyone not frequenting this forum may well have missed this new version, which seems a pity.

Same here. Naim is the only app I use that doesn’t trigger the update flag in the App Store. I typically find out about an update here on the forum, then delete and reinstall. Is this on a list of problems to be fixed?
Other than this, 5.8 on iOS 11 seems to be working quite well on my iPad.
I can definitively state that the error counter does not work when you are ripping on Core. Apparently it works against Star, but not against Core.
Thought it was too good to be true, a bit of an own goal IMO, their reference cd ripper has an error counter that does not work?
Clearly no-one on the beta test team actually... you know... tested it...

That's odd, I looked yesterday on the App Store on my iPhone and the prompt to update to 5.8 was there, so I updated.
I've still got 5.6 on my iPad and that has been nagging me to install 5.7 but I noticed this morning that it is nagging me to install 5.8 now.

Hardly any of use have a Core. So how can we test it?
You also need known faulty CDs, which I suppose Jon has but I do not. I did test the ripper monitor and as far as I could tell it worked.

Clearly, David, you have failed in your job. How can you live with yourself?
I think the word "job" implies some sort of reward, which is missing in this instance!
Of course it may equally be that Jon is mistaken....

Under iOS 10, at least the Naim app could be used as a slide-over app in portrait mode. Under iOS11 it appears but cannot be manipulated properly. It still crashes in landscape mode.
Reported to Naim as this long-term issue was scheduled to be fixed in 5.8
Roger
A fix for the crash will be in a future update to 5.8.

Arched eyebrow
I have ripped cds with some disappointing scratches wth time, still zero. The only cd that does not make it is my MFSL steely dan cd of Asia which no player will play due to stress cracking. We need an update from Naim on what Core users should expect from the ripping update.
I'm informed that the next Core firmware update brings the error count function to that unit. Naim didn't want to delay the Star any longer than it had to.
Thanks Richard, but I have to say Naim are still very poor in communicating to customers. If Jon had not raised we may have not twigged this, as I said in a previous post, half glass full I hoped it was that good, silly me.
But thank you Richard for bridging the gap, yet again.

We have been testing betas of 5.8 for a week or so. The Core ripping monitor now tells you whether there were errors as the rip proceeds and at the end of the rip the screen stays there with that info until you do something to make it go away.

Hi David,
Jon is absolutely right - and we have discussed this between us by both email and phone this afternoon - the updated error reporting on Core requires an updated firmware for Core and that is expected to be available for the end of October once a number of improvements that were made for the Star have been reflected back into the Core firmware.
This dependency should have been more clearly specified and better communicated and we apologise for this not being the case...

Oddly this is the first time the updated app didn't flag up on the AppStore on my phone or tablet - I had to delete them and install from new.
It's not something that we have any control of ourselves as that's part of AppStore functionality.

Thanks Phil. It would have been good to know this when we were beta testing, even if your colleagues didn't want to put it in the public release notes.

Well Hallelujah - at the eighth iteration we are finally back to finding the last used device without going through the irritating ‘finding rooms’, spinning wheel thing. Good.

Thanks Phil for your work yesterday afternoon in helping to clarify what is going on with the current software/firmware build.

This was exactly my experience. I think Apple made significant changes to the App Store app in iOS 11 and may have broken the flagging part. I have just updated one of our iPads to 11.0.1 and it is showing 3 updates in the App Store whereas an iPad and iPhone still on 11.0 are not showing any updates. So it looks like they may have fixed this bug 11.0.1.
Roger
I have IOS 11.0.1 on both my iPhone SE and iPad mini, I found on both that after updating I had to change some of the notification settings on the apps including the app store, so if you are not getting the update icons it may be worth checking
i have also found the Naim app does not appear in Settings/Notifications on both iPad and iPhone, this may be why the update icon does not show.
