SN2 break in?

Yes , this topic has been discussed extensively. And yes, the search engine still exists. But maybe new owners of Supernait 2 might want to share their experience?
"500 hours" has often been referred to as a turning point. So once again... is this the case or is this "perceived harshness " infact the revelaing of source, speakers or room acoustics...or is it simply a character trait?

Macbook via USB, Wav files and CD's.
Many contributors here will disagree but I've yet to hear any domestic computer employed as a source item which sounds good enough for Hi-Fi purposes. I suspect that your excellent Chord DAC and SN2 are showing up the source equipment. The welter of crap mastering of a lot of new popular music doesn't help either.
It's frustrating; running a Ferrari on paraffin.
Remember that we here are the lunatic fringe. If new Naim kit didn't sound any good for the first 500 hours of use; sales would be very poor indeed. I have bought innumerable items of new Naim kit since 1982, and have generally been very happy with the sound within a few hours (24 at most) of initial power-up. What follows is icing in the cake.
Good luck.

Well the 2qute needs to be signal grounded
speak to Chord about how to do this it’s very easy and there is a ground terminal on that Dac for this purpose

its neither you or the amplifier but rather the local and house power circuits that change in mains noise pattern as the residents and neighbours go to and return from work or holidays.
Or that Mercury's going retrograde from Venus, or perhaps the Moon in first quarter.
Don't

It does sound a bit awkward to begin with and settles down after 3-4 weeks. It's unavoidable but well worth the wait.
I know my SN2 is an ex dem model so should be well run in but straight out of the box it did indeed sound a bit "awkward", that's a great description of a 'cold' SN2
Absolutely no harshness at all though

not sure about that.... what's for sure is, when people are back home from work, they turn on there computers, microwaves, washing machines etc, which may cause severe noise in the mains and thus affect the performance of your system.
M37...I was in the exact same situation as you sometime ago only using SBLs. I also found the SN2 on the bright and edgy side with too much glare... a little too digital and choked for my taste. After about 300hrs of burn in time out of the box, I didnt hear much difference so I sold it and went to a CB 250 with a passive pre. Much more open and deep and the glare disappeared. I find SN2 to be the equivalent of about 152XS/200. What you could try is a good passive preamp in conjunction to the amp section of the SN2 to see if the pre section of the SN2 is the culprit. I suspect it is. However not wise to use all those funds for just an amp so maybe a good passive with a 250 DR? Also if your source is a laptop spinning cds that is a contributing factor. Any Bluray player connected to your DAC will improve things greatly. All the best in your search.
