Naim in Currys

"So do you want tweeters with yer woofers mate? And how many watts do you want?"

(cue rest of Not The Nine-Oclock News sketch)

I'd post the URL, but go to the Currys website and search for Naim. Yup, the muso is in currys.

I cant wait to engage with a "sales executive" youth and, through the clouds of his Lynx deoderant, have a discussion about the directionality of interconnect cables.

Apparently its been on sale there for some years. Shows how often I visit, I guess. I prefer to overnight from Amazon these days.

Do they do demonstrations and installs?

That made me smile, I also recall a hint of Brut 33 in our branch, it was that long ago.

Insure it for an extra £400.

Easy to ridicule.   I went in to Curry’s a little while ago and there was this deafening sound bar playing.   That the Muso is there as an alternative that’s good.

Can't beat a bit of snob value.Fine for shops who promote themselves as HI FI consultants and all that bollocks prehaps there salesman use a more sophistacated aftershave

The Muso will fit in nicely with all the other made in china products they sell.

Quite - i thought the attitude displayed in the original post was put to bed when the Muso was first being sold in Richer Sounds. This is the 'lifestyle' end of the range so nothing to get too worried about...

If it brings more awareness of the Naim brand then surely that's a good thing.

Wouldn't it be better to reveal what you suppose to know and give the poor kid a chance to learn something if the Company hasn't given him that chance ?

We all start a place, why piss on others with "I know better" attitude

I really don't understand the intention behind the OP's snide comments. Currys/PC World occupy a perfectly legitimate place in the multimedia supply world. My kids have all bought perfectly decent sound systems there in the past (Wharfedale, Denon etc.) and an awful lot of friends of mine buy their TVs there. MuSo isn't exactly highbrow hifi, just a top end all in one/soundbar.

Once again I'm reminded of the old adage ending in 'say nowt'!

It seems you can be a complete and utter **** buy a Naim system and be reborn a cultured and debonair lover of good wine and excellent cheese well who would have thunk it eh.

I have to say that I bought my Muso Qb from Currys. The sales person didn't know a lot about it, other than it sounded great and let me listen to it.

That said, I don't think a lot of Currys customers are there for an in depth sales pitch for naim audio equipment, and certainly they're not selling 'proper' hi-fi separates there, so I don't really understand what the issue is?

I think choice is good, both in terms of routes to market for the manufacturer as well as for the consumer. Why buy an LG/Samsung/or other 'ordinary' soundbar, when you could try a Naim for the first time. Who knows where that would take them?

Just my thoughts.

In my experience they don’t want to engage anyhow. Last time I went in I was accosted by someone who claimed to be from Sony telling me that my OLED choice was crap. So I listened, walked out and bought my OLED screen elsewhere. Not been back since.

Of course curry’s can sell a muso perfectly well. That’s the reality check on a lot of stuff that is bantered around here. Maybe my incisive wit was a little too misleading

If muso why not uniti? Now there is a thought.

And just how much better are many “proper” dealers than the lad at curry’s? Discuss...

Nah, still a to**er no matter how much he spends.

Bought our Muso QB at John Lewis -- not sure whether the JL Partner had much more knowledge than the lad at Curry's... I didn't mind much since I knew what I wanted. Just wished our local Naim dealer wasn't hopeless. On a good day, he might even open up his shop...

I too noticed that Nain can be bought basically 'anywhere' these days which is good. More people can experience our deep joy of real music.

The serious stuff is only available in-shops like Moorgate Acoustics in Sheffield.

Enjoy the music and thanks Naim (I mean thanks Moorgate Acoustics)

Xx

Oh goodness me, you lot are way too serious, we were 'aving a larf. After all some of us are old enough to recall when they sold Sinclair calculators in kit form operating in RPN.

I don't have a problem with box shifters elling Naim, so long as they can deliver on their customer expectations.

Posted on: 06 October 2017 by Harry

I hope they pile them high and sell them by the thousands. So long as some of the profit goes into R&D for a 500 level or Statement streamer.

This basement to penthouse product model hasn't hurt companies like B&W, or for that matter, BMW. If they can sell them they should build them.

Posted on: 06 October 2017 by yeti42

Just don’t try taking it back if there’s a problem. Curry’s fit their staff with an obfiscation chip for that eventuality.

Posted on: 06 October 2017 by Harry

From my experience that is a fair point. The last appliance we bought from them will forever be the last thing we will buy from them.  Naim would weigh in with support if people have issues. We bought a cooker. Naim don't make cookers, although I'm beginning to wonder if it's only a matter of time.

I think class A power amp is unlikely in any timescale,

The dealer margin point is important. Go to someone good (like Cymbiosis, Tomtom, audiobarn) and pay full retail and get support. Go to Curry's and pay the same amount and get.... deafening silence?

i had a curry in Naim once.

I see a parallel with car maker Mercedes-Benz. Back in the 1980's the smallest Benz was the 190, a medium plus sized car by todays measurements. Then some guys in sales/marketing must have thought there was a market they were missing out on. Cars smaller than the 190. As they were/are perceived as a premium brand (Naim) they have produced similar sized small cars as Ford Vauxhall, but with a premium on price. At one time they even charged extra for an automatic gearbox!

This also allows them as a main dealer to charge the same hourly rates for servicing as their top of the range S-class. I am open to question on this point but I would be surprised to hear differently.

So good luck to Naim. Anything which spreads "the word" is fine with me. Nothing to stop you going to a Naim authorised dealer. At least they will have good in depth product knowledge.

Douglas.
