Looking to add a TT to my Supernait 2, so I can join in with the vinyl comeback gang, now iam not getting rid of my Naim xs Cd player, no chance, but i do want in on vinyl, how do I approach this?, of course I want a quality deck, mid price, mass loaded, because it's not going on a dedicated stand, more like a low unit, and a know you purists will cast me out, but iam trying add style with functionality here, I just don't like racks, no big deal is it?, but on a more serious note, I want a few good suggestions to get me excited, I have had some advise from a dealers in Warrington where I have been going for 30 years, Project, ortofon, and Rothwell have been mentioned, however there is only so much one dealer can stock, so please feel free with your suggestions. Regards.

There are some very smart wall shelves out there now if you can accomodate one your choices are much better.

A Rega within your price range. I recently sold my RP6. It was a fine deck with loads of PRaT and did not needed a dedicated altar.  After I moved, I used it without any problems on a USM Haller rack.

As stated above for 3K you can get a pretty decent LP 12 with Cirkus Bearing an Ittock or even a Mk 1 Ekos a Dynavector 10x5 Cartridge and a Mk 1 Lingo power supply put a Trampolin 2 base and your good to go although personally I would try and accommodate a wall shelf.

I put mine together for about £15 - 1800 and as it is I would be happy with it if you do go used as mentioned either get Cymbiosis to build or if not make sure you allow for a qualified  deck engineer to give it the once over.

Another deck I recall that worked well on a heavy sideboard - in fact IIRC this was recommended by the importer - was the Well Tempered.

The Versalex looks a bit precarious on a Fraim, a larger unit might suit it. I’d probably take one over a Michell, or an LP12 but it does like a good cartridge. You’d need a dust cover.  Google it, you might find a dealer with a used one.

Anyone prefer VPI Prime or the Prime Signature to Linn LP12?

It got an awesome review from Alan Sircom (HiFi+), so much so.... apparently he bought one!

I haven’t heard one here yet in New Zealand, but have heard the LP12 ...... unfortunately there isn’t a dealership here that sells both manufacturers in order to do a comparison

I'm still very content with my budget AT LP5 with AT 540 mm cart with microline and Stageline N/I Supply. But did remove the 100pF capacitors on the internal phonoboard because they were still active with switch set to external phonoamp. The AT mm carts are pretty sensitive to capacity.
