Naim Uniti Atom with a matching "NAP100 equivalent"

Posted by: Ali K. on 10 October 2017

Hello

I am seriously considering upgrading from my UnitiQute to an Atom but also want to further increase the power of my system. My budget makes it harder for me to go straight to the Uniti Nova. It would be great if I could do this upgrade from my Qute in two stages. So, while I figure the NAP100 will work with the Atom (as my later add-on), is Naim already planning/working on an equivalent to the NAP100 that matches the look/design of the new Uniti range?

Thanks,

Ali

I’d work on the assumption that the Classic range, of which the 100 is a part, are staying in the same style boxes. You could always add a 200 to the Qute and then get a 272. Or if you really want the new functionality, just save for the Nova.

Thank you.

I guess my thoughts are that eventually the Classic range would be phased out and that the new Uniti range is the replacement (or perhaps there is something else replacing the Classic).

The new Uniti range includes the Atom, Nova, Star (and even an add-on Uniti Core which provides a CD player and HD for those who bought the Atom or Nova). Similarly, I'd expect that an add-on power amp would also be forthcoming (these would be for those who would have bought the Atom or the Star and want the boost).

I think only someone at Naim would know if indeed this is in the plan.

Hi,

It should already be public knowledge that there are no plans to change the industrial design of the Classic range and no plans to phase out the Classic range so I can say that up here...

Cheers

Phil,

Aha! Okay. Fair enough. But, that (I hope) does not preclude Naim adding a separate power amp unit to the look of the new Uniti range?

Ali

Fully agree with that, please bring us a power amp that'd complement the beautiful new design of the new Uniti range, Something with a form-factor similar of the Atom would be a perfect match. That'd be dope !!!!

Ali, the NAP100 was designed as the partnering power amp for the DAC-V1, so I'd imagine that should any development of the cosmetics of the NAP100 take place then it would be most closely aligned with any cosmetic updates to that DAC. As to any possible power amp styled to match the Uniti range, it's probably unlikely, but who knows?  I would imagine such a thing is not exactly top priority at the moment.  But, as I'm not privy to all Naim's future development plans, I could be wrong.

Well, If I may Richard, from a pure aesthetic perspective, having a power amp matching the new Uniti range design would be much better, a mini-statement i'd love to own.

Once unboxed and linked to the Atom, my lovely NAP 100 seems old-fashioned whereas it blended seemlessly with my former DAC V1 and Qute2.

Sure thing Bouba, I don't disagree that such a thing would look much nicer if matched up to the Atom.  Thing is though, the Unitis are single box units.  That's what they are referred to as All-in-ones. The pre-outs are really just there for linking to a subwoofer or a possible temporary stand-in, moving to the proper separates.  I guess what i'm trying to say is, if you want a separate streamer/pre and power amp then the Uniti range is possibly the wrong place to be looking and you'd be better off with a NAC-N272 + a NAP or whatever may come up with the new platform to replace this in the future.

Would you care to take a guess at how long that might remain the case?

Hi ChrisSU,

No - that's not something that I'm privvy to or would be allowed to discuss even if I was...

Dear Richard

Thank you. I see where you are coming from even if I wish the answer was different. The one thing I do want to point out (from my perspective) is that while the new Unitis are "all-in-ones", Naim is offering the Uniti Core as an add-on to the Nova and Atom so...I wish that Naim would extend that rationale to a power amp for the Uniti Atom and Uniti Star.

Wouldn't it make more sense to trade the Atom in for a Nova when you are ready to upgrade?

Posted on: 17 October 2017 by Sourav

Go for Nova straight if possible (or save for that). Once u listen to Nova it would be hard to look back.

You could always hide the Nap away if the different case work doesn't work for you or what about a Chrome Bumper Nap that might look nice.

classic range phased out and look changed?

Naim don't do things that way at all.

The classic range is a very mature and well engineered design, and I just can't see Naim making any changes to it for the sake of it.

Changes in the naim portfolio are always engineering and sound quality driven.

Rather than aspire to a matching NAP which is very highly unlikely to happen in the near future, why not upgrade to a Star or Nova?

Hi,

That was a "new" 250 too though and was in line with a completely new set of units that were introduced at that time.

As has been stated here previously - the Classic series design is here for the forseeable future.

Best

Certainly the investors will thank you for this kind albeit rather naive gesture

Forseeable future can be anything from one day Phil

Current design is one and a half decade old, I bet a pint with you, some changes has come within twelve to eighteen months

Fwiw I didn't like the new black range back in 2002 I was a diehard Olive user but tbh I calmed down a few years after, later on have had lots of late kit and the dust is settled

Hi,

This is true but given that there is no date for the Classic series to be changed then what other answer can I give?

Phil

Posted on: 18 October 2017 by analogmusic

that's a very naive statement Perol.

12 to 18 months, what do you have a crystal ball ? When Naim have said there is no change in the future, you think you know more than the people who say there isn't any?

You do not like the new look, but you are a very, very small minority, and plenty of people including Naim think it is excellent.

I personally think the olive look is old, dated and not to my liking at all.

But Phil, I didn't demand any answer from you, we are just musing over things here and happily so its allowed for the free speech subject to guess anything

I am sure however, you will not introduce any green, red or Union flag cabinets

If you re-read my post you will find I actually do

Both current range classic and the new Uniti stuff is amazing

I do though, not find the olive or crome kit dated, in fact my current poweramp is crome, my premp is olive and my psu is black and I care not one iota

A power amp In the same case as my core would look fatastic with my CB nap 32...
