Where to buy a pair of Neat Motive sx2 (not distributed in France)

Posted by: Bouba on 13 October 2017

hey all, I think the subject is self explanatory : I’m seriously thinking about treat myself for upcoming weeks and buying a pair is neat motive sx2 but there’s only one problem:  Neat is not distributed in France; any longer.

Do you know of a brisith retailer likely to ship overseas? Many thanks to all in advance for your help

P.S: in the meantime; my Atom still sounds dope with my PM1 speakers

I'd look at Analogue Seduction. I'm in the US and have bought turntable accessories from them. Prompt shipping at reasonable rates. According to their website, they stock the SX2.

You could try contacting Bob at Neat and see if he would ship to you direct. A friend of mine in La Palma (Canaries) had a new pair of another UK brand shipped to him directly from the manufacturer at a very favourable price as there is no dealer for that brand in the Canaries

Fanthorpes in Hull, and consider the SX1. In my view, a really worthwhile step up more the SX2 — more gravitas. Also, Fanthorpes stocks B grade speakers from the SX range with typically very minor imperfections. Super-good bargains!

P.S. i would ask for Dave — a really nice guy who wants to help.

Maybe consider the Iota range

Two floorstander variants available

I guess these are Motive successors but the M2 can be quite amazing at the asking price, I don't like the M1, too bassy unless very large room

If you like them perhaps look out for the Kudos X2 to compare, imo they need a bit amplication

Many UK dealers will sell direct as will factory, don't hesitate

I think I know the guy who sold you the B&w's - hope your happy

Many thanks for the suggestions

I’ll contact the dealers you mentioned as well as Neat acoustics

I would be very intesrested in kudos as well but no dealers around either in France

can anyone tell how the kudos x2 or x3 would compare vs the sx2? Would the Atom suffice to drive one or the others?

As a theoretical point of comparison, What HiFi's review of the Atom stated it powered ATC SCM 50 (85 dB sensitivity) "with headroom to spare". The X2, X3, and SX2 are 86.5, 88, and 86 dB sensitivity, respectively. Based on that information you should be good with the Atom powering your candidates as the ATCs have a large cabinet volume (for standmounts). As always, the proof will be in what you hear in your room and there are no guarantees. Most any speaker performs better with greater amplification. You're fixed at 40-watts with the Atom, so speakers with higher sensitivity may be a valid consideration especially if you can't demo before buying. Food for thought.

Hi Bouba,

Audio Concept in Luxembourg stocks Neat Acoustic loudspeakers including Motive series.

thank you all for the various suggestions, i'm now taking a closer look at the various options.

Just a question regarding the SX2, is there any way to set the speakers less "angled" than they are; from all the pics I spotted; I can see that the speakers are inclined backward. when setting them up, can one change that and instead set them "straight" ?

Mmm...this seems a rather odd question if I must say so myself but I will try to give an opinion if I may.

I suppose one could try to maximum counter adjust the tilt slightly with the spikes but I don't think this will be possible to get them to fire 'straight' by doing so... the SX2s are quite small and compact in stature, they rely on this tilt to breath out into the room so they can involve the listener at ear level.

Further more, the Motive SX2s are not a boundry design and work best with at bit of space around them. I have mine at least 30cm from the rear wall with a lot of distance from side walls, around 6ft apart with a 15/20 degree toe in.

I run Motive SX2s with my Naim 5si CD player and amplifier with the spikes screwed all the way in, only adjusting one of them for final level, this is how they sound their best in my environment. I also believe very much that their tilt is all part of their design and of great importance to there final 'musical' character as a whole, so I will not be recommending running them any other way.

Hope this helps.

The slope is part of the design, and while I’m sure they could be set up to be more vertical, they would not sound right. Added to that the spikes would then be sloping. If you don’t want sloping speakers, don’t buy the Motives, would be my advice.

Many thanks Stephen and Hungryhalibut.

I'm now aware that the speakers have been design to work that way and perform at their best.

So many thanks to all for your help and reply. I'll certainly get used to that design as they'd be the very first speaker designed that way, and my very first pair of floorstanders as well.

No, many other speakers are designed like that in various form

But do not let this put you out, if want straight up speakers with similar performance, Kudos X series will do, designed by same person(s)

Otherwise Motives are superb speakers and good buys second hand

Just secure you can accomodate them well away from boundaries such as wall and furnitures, they do quite easy perform a slight slow boom bas even the port is below

I have no idea if the Atom is enough, my own UQ is fine in smaller room with ordinary sound pressure level, don't expect miracles, a separate poweramp can be the cure but that seem kind of silly for such an expensive product (Atom)

OP I have the sx2 and auditioned the Kudos x2 at the same time.  Both very good, but in my view the Neats delivered more of a performance and more foot tapping, and still do.  Great fun and very enjoyable to listen to.   Also the design is neat (!); they don’t dominate our living room, and the leaning stance make them interesting furniture.

I bought a pair of SX2's from Fanthorpes 18 months or so ago. Good hifi shop and I'm sure that they'll ship internationally for you.

Given that the Pound is so week against the Euro at the minute, you might get yourself a good deal.

I've paired the SX2's with a DAC-V1 / NAP100 combination and it sounds great.
