Naim active Kudos

Well done to audiobarn for putting on an interesting display of Kudos driven actively and passively by Naim amps, and to Naim and Kudos for supporting the event
The difference in clarity between active and passive 707's was clear. In passive mode, they were driven by a 300DR. In active, a hicap/snaxo/2x250DR combination which, to my ears, was clearly significantly better (timing, clarity, note edges, lack of fuzzyness). And showed how much further you could go if you wanted to spend more -- eg supercapdr on snaxo, 2 x 300 DR amps and so forth.
With their big monster speakers driven actively, I have a route forward from 6pack DBL should they ever become unserviceable, which is nice to know.

The burning question indeed Debs.
I have heard passive 300DR vs active 2 x 250DRs with the Titan 707s and preferred the active set up but I have to say both power amp arrangements were superb, even with a modest 272/555PS feeding them.
At a show in the East on 3/4 Nov there will be a chance to hear 552/active 2x300DRs/707s. I hope to get there and will let this fine place know what I think if I do go.
You could surmise that if active 250DRs beat passive 300DR then active 300DRs have the capability to beat passive 500DR. But what does 'beat' mean and when did logic come into HiFi?
Anyway I have never heard two little 250DRs sound so stunning! Interesting times.
It wouldn't surprise me if the active 250s outperform passive 500, but Im certainly up for the opportunity to find out
