Tablette 10

Proac Tablette 10

House move complete (excuse messy cables & wallpaper) the Tablette 10’s were set up yesterday evening. The room is not that small, about 5 x 3.5 x 3, but I did need something smaller than the S400 which looked huge in the room!

These little beauties are a marvel! So quick & musical with quite astonishing bass for their size. Close my eyes and I’m hard pushed to differentate from the Ovator in terms of scale and authority.

A very good piece of loudspeaker design.

I don't think i've seen a negative opinion of these yet. Take a tried and tested formula and make it even more room friendly...

Enjoy

Glad you are liking them Graeme, astonishing sound from a tiny speaker.  If you get a chance, listen to them with Super Lumina speaker cable.  Even powering with my humble NAP100, the Super Lumina brought out the best of the Tablet 10's.

Graemeh,

They look stunning in the white! Congrats on the new purchase. Interesting observations as to their performance, especially as to the scale of the sound they can realise from their modest size. I'm going to have to try and listen to these little wonder boxes. I wonder, would a UnitiQute power them adequately? Perhaps the addition of a NAP would help.

Congratulations Graeme! They look lovely in white. I’ve had mine nearly 10 days and they seem to get better and better. Sound great on the end of my SN2. Enjoy!

Congratulations Graeme' I'm hearing nothing but good reviews about these Tablettes my curiosity is now piqued enough to give them a try.

I should mention the stands were recommended to my dealer by Proac and are the Custom Design FS103 Atabyte filled.

This afternoon is the longest extended listen and it’s clear that they are blossoming out - The manual says 1 week and then a few months thereafter to optimise them. Gorgeous sound already so I’m really looking forward to the next few months !

Interestingly the volume on the 250DR can go reassuringly higher than I could on the S400. I had Zep at the BBC on them yesterday with Bonzo hammering the cones on ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and they held it together presenting every hit in time.

Me too indeed, had the original Tablets more than 25 years back

Even my current room is a bit too large for them now

Dealbreaker for me so far has been the biwire terminals, but I can wait for the singlewire  Signature version to be released, if it will ?

Would be nice if someone close to Proac will follow up

Most of their speaker (if not all) are bi-wire. Easy to convert to single wire if it really bothers you.

How ?

Once I had some Leema speakers and tried to move the leads inside but not possible due to X-over was direct connected to biwire terminals

I tend to refuse using links and F cables could be my only option if cables inside Tablettes are not remove-able ?

Very nice Graeme. If they sound as good as they look you should be very pleased.

Thanks MDS I leave the house bits to the wife she has a better eye then me.

The black NACA5 spoils the shot though, should have purchased white 18+ years ago but not sure if white was available then!

Has anybody compared the Tablette 10 and the Anniversary? I heard the latter, which I thought was rather nice for such a small speaker. Is the 10 even better? As possibly easier to place (BBC design)?

16cm from the solid masonry back wall, 230cm apart and 280cm to listening spot Perol.

Nothing scientific here...first pass at what looked right in the room.

Eric Bibb ‘Diamond Days’ sounds phenomenal!

Ask Proac nicely or just get inside and do it yourself. I find links untidy and prefer either a single wired connection in the first place or if that's not possible then i'll make it so

If I wasn’t so pleased with my speakers I’d be trying some of these, as they look pretty well perfect. Small and most importantly, they sit against the wall. Who wants speakers that need a metre behind them? It’s also rather refreshing to see such enthusiasm for a £999 speaker.

Atc have a recently released variants of scm19 and scm40 that are also sealed units and designed to attach directly to wall.  They are also available in white

Shame they didn't just redesign the existing models to go closer to a rear wall. ATC speakers look good. I'm not too sure about the wall mount variants though.

Anyway back to the Tablettes

Sorry, I should correct myself, looking at the ATC website the variants are 7, 11. and 40, interestingly no 19 variant.

For those with the Tablette 10, I'd be interested to know what is the bass response like? Do you get enough of bass guitar in the mix?

Well some of us have unusual properties(it's too boring to go into all the details) which means we cannot always put speakers  up against the wall. I'm afraid i'm one of those people who need speakers a metre out from the wall.

Bass from these speakers is awesome.  Very ATC-like.  Controlled and focused.  It clearly articulates some very deep notes.  I was listening to some old Kruder & Dorfmeister albums on the Tab 10s last week.  Many speakers, even floor standers, just fall apart due to the depth and complexity of some of those bass lines.  Not the Tab 10s.  It was most impressive.

I also have a pair of ATC 7s so you may find this interesting.  Keep in mind the 7s are fully broken in and the Tab 10s are only a couple weeks old.  My sense so far is the 7s have better tweeters and the Tab 10s have better drivers.  Overall I like the ATCs a bit more because of their honesty.  The sound of the Tab 10s has a small dose of color/flavor but the bass is somewhat better.  The 7s are absolute magic when paired with an olive 250.  A 140 will do the trick too, but the 7s definitely give you more when you put a bigger amp on them.  On the other hand,  the Tab 10s can be driven well by a Nait2 (more to come on that topic in a separate thread soon).  They will of course give you more as you put bigger amps on them.  The cabinets are beautiful.  They also smell like fresh wood when you take them out of the box.

I think on any given day I would be hard pressed to choose between either of these speakers.

One other thing to point out about the Tab 10s - they are small and not very deep.  When you look at them you can't anticipate the sound that will come out.

Agree with how some of you love the Proacs. I had a signature 50 tab which served me for more than 10 years until I sold it 5 years ago for the Harbeth P3ESR. Regreted it big time and now I am back into Proac in the form of the Response DT8. Lovely real wood veneer cabinet and a neutral tending to slightly sweet sound without any hint of harnesss. What more can I ask for ? :-)

Thanks, I enjoyed reading your write up and it gives a great sense of what the proacs can do.
