Unitqute 2 b

Posted by: Gerald on 16 October 2017

hello everyone,

I’m new to the forum and I’m considering the purchase of a unitqute 2 .

I’ll be replacing a very powerful peachtree 125se at 125watts per side driving a set

of tannoy xtf8. I’m wondering that the qute might not have enough power and of course

the whole reason is a sound quality upgrade.

I think it depends a bit on your room size but I think you will be surprised what the little Qute can and will do to your beautiful xt 8f's. At 91dB (2.83V/1m) it will drive them okay I think. My Qute is still driving a pair of fairly big PMC OB1 i's at only 86 dB and it makes them sing and boogy surprisingly well. Okay, if I want to play really loud the wee Qute is starting to struggle, say above a volume setting of 60. So I am hoping to audition a Uniti Nova together with a Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 soon. Looking forward to compare these to amps very different amps and what they can do with the PMC's.

Could you maybe audition the Qute first?

Thank for the reply..the room size is 14 by 20 feet . And I do like to crank it up at times..

i May just go for the atom . ITs a little more powerful and a new design...I can get a home demo.

If you need more power, you could buy a used Superuniti for the price of a new Atom.

That’s true.. that may be a better option

the superuniti would like be a significant upgrade over my peachtree 125se?

Go for the home demo of the Atom and see for yourself.

Don't be distracted by speaker sensitivity ratings - they have absolutely nothing to do with how difficult a load any given speaker is for any given amplifier.

And don't be distracted by amplifier power ratings, you'd be surprised how little difference doubling the power makes (i.e. only 3dB increase by doubling the power).  The 40W from the Atom will drive your speakers to 107dB, and that's plenty too loud!

I can’t comment on your Peachtree, as I’ve never heard one, but the Superuniti has a beefy amp which might suit you better than a Qute or Atom if you like to crank it up a bit.

Yes understand completely...I plan on a demo of the atom now just the same.

I think the Atom is very good, so certainly worth a listen. Worth asking your dealer if he has a Superuniti you can listen to as well, though - many dealers have used/trade-in stock to sell.

Yes.. I’ll have that discussion with my dealer

Yes, if you have the opportunity to listen to both do so.  The SU is also a very good machine and Naim's build quality ensures reliability.

Yes..there are always a few on the Canuck Audio uses market as well..  only thing is you can’t demo so it’s much better to deal with a naim dealer.
