Failing DAB rescan

Posted by: Kurt L on 17 October 2017

Today, the Belgian national radio stations went to DAB+.

So, in order to listen to them, I did a rescan of the DAB stations. Quite amazed to see that during scanning 46 stations were detected, but when I got the list, it mentioned "No stations available. Press List to rescan". So, I did that ~10 times with exactly the same result.

In the meantime I looked up the internet and read a factory reset would fix it. As I wasn't looking forward to spend my evening re-configuring my NDX, i tried a last thing. I disconnected my (amplified outdoor) antenna from the NDX, and let it scan. As expected, I found 0 stations. I plugged in the antenna again, and did a rescan. Et voila, al stations were there! I did this a couple of times and this is working in my case.

I also contacted Phil, who also recommended a factory reset. As this is quite drastic, best to try above as a last resort.

Hope this helps

Interesting. The factory reset would clear the old DAB data which is why it works, but doing a scan where no stations are found is an interesting alternative. One to remember!

Consider yourself lucky to have DAB+, which I'm told can sound OK; here in the UK, we still have to put up with regular DAB, which to my ears, is possibly the worst of all the lossy streams available.

Ahh MPEG1-audio layer 2  audio as used by DAB in the UK has one redeeming feature over DAB+ AAC+ codec.. it is generally accepted it handles transcoding of content better.. ie an MP3 source should sound better on DAB compared to DAB+ for the same bandwidth..

Polih DAB+ stations seem to be OK - I picked tem up quite easily. I love having a simple list of pre-sets mixing iRadio, FM and DAB.

To be honest, it doesn't bother me, as I never use DAB. When I bought my NDX I didn't even bother with the DAB/FM version. If I want low res background music, there's nothng available on DAB that I can't get on iRadio, so it seems a bit pointless!

I rarely listen to DAB stations - primarily FM for us here. It's on several hours each day - either on the NDX or on the SuperUniti which lives in the kitchen/dining room.
