Possible to set up Unitiqute 2 without remote?
Posted by: robwae on 19 October 2017
Hi:
I purchased a used Unitiqute 2 and received it today, but the seller didn't find the remote in time to include it in the shipment. It's en route but I'm wondering if there's some way I can set up the unit in the meantime?

Some settings can only be adjusted using the remote. (Unlike other Naim streamers, there are no buttons on the front) so you may have problems: it will depend on the way the settings were left by the previous user. All you can do is set it up and try.
if you connect an ethernet cable a lot of the functions can be controlled by the app.

The only significant issue you might have is if DHCP has been switched off, in which case you won’t connect it to your network. Otherwise plug it in and it should be fine. When the remote arrives you can do things like the length of time the display stays on.
Well, the unit defaults to Spotify when I turn it on and since I don't have access to an ethernet cable (I'm using Wifi or an optical cable directly from my iMac), I guess I'll have to wait for the remote to arrive.
Thanks for your responses.

It works in the same way over either WiFi or wired Ethernet, so you will have access to the same settings on the Naim app either way. That said, a wired connection is normally more reliable, and a much better option for stability, but for now, you can still use WiFi for control and settings.
The unit's screen just reads "No Time" or "Please Wait Input Initialising" and "Spotify" is in the upper right hand corner. Without some way to tell the unit which network to get on, I don't see how I can select the device using the app since it's not listed on one of the app's setup pages (presumably because it's not on the same network as my iPad yet).

You need the Tools menu, and as far as I know, it can only be accessed using the remote. If you happened to live near one of us with a Naim streamer remote (it's the same one for ND5XS too), a quick visit would sort you out. (Where are you?) Hopefully the postie will be dropping yours off soon.
I live in the Hudson Valley of New York. I should have the remote in 3-4 days, so I'll survive. And in the meantime I'll just listen to my newly acquired KEF LS50W active speakers (which sounds fantastic, by the way).
Thanks again for the responses.

Not quite local enough for me to pop round!
