Blimey, the 272 is even better than I thought it was...
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 19 October 2017
I’ve been using my beloved 272 since June 2015, with the addition of an XPSDR in autumn that year. Yesterday I installed a brand new 555 PS DR, with a new S-XPS Burndy. Rather like when I bought the XPS two years ago I didn’t try the 555 first, and when I picked it up from the shop Dan from Naim was there for a Uniti open day. All Dan said was ‘you’ll love it, even straight out of the box’. And he was right, and then some. I thought the system was sounding great before, but the 555 has moved it to a different level. The music is so much more real, leaping out of the speakers in a much more lifelike way. Everything is clearer, so you get more into the music. The speakers sound a lot bigger too, which I imagine is the impact of the power supply on the preamp. Five hours later to was sounding better still, and of course things will improve further over the coming weeks.
It’s bloody expensive, it weighs a ton, but blimey it’s good. The idea of a £6,500 power supply on a £3,500 streaming preamp is perhaps bit odd, but the combination is just incredible. I know there are a few others using this combination, and that they have said how much better the 555 makes the 272, and perhaps I underestimated how much difference it would make: now I have one at home I am very much over rather than underwhelmed, which is always good.

Pity really
I for one, would much rather hear about Planar vinyl experiences than Diesel jeans, cookies, trips to Milano, personal illness etc.
Start your own thread then. Some of us quite enjoy the picaresque meanderings of these threads. Why make negative comments?
Feel free to enjoy whatever you will of other's privacy life exposed here
It has zero interest for me and I'll probably never understand why some people need to do so.
My comments was not meant to be negative, rather to get informative views on what went wrong with a Vshort vinyl adventure by OP, even its history now, the Rega decks are so great they need more mention in those streaming ages.

I take my hat off to your open-mindedness, the width of your interests and, most of all, your exquisite sensitivity. I am the one who spent the day with Nigel (and the lovely, lovely person he married) and I'm so glad not to be so stupid not to recognize joy in a person who has needed some for a long time.

Sad. I struggle to understand, given your apparent lack of sensitivity, how you manage to enjoy music. Perhaps it's just the hifi you enjoy?

Not sure I get your purpose for above post ? - I know you are the person Max, and I'm sure both Nigel and his wife are great persons
And as for sensitivity I am sure you and me, both have
People, their feelings, experiences and sensitivities will always be far more interesting than bits of HiFi.
Forumites will only ever share their feelings and the more intimate parts of their life on here If and when they feel comfortable in doing so. As such I do not see it as an intrusion.
When occasionally the fine folk on here decide to share such things, it can often add perspective and understanding to their attitudes to music reproduction in the home, or can just be a simple aside to the more boring chatter about bits of kit. To me this adds interest and context to what otherwise could be a rather dry subject. Indeed, the more amusing asides and diversions have genuinely had me creased up!
It is really very simple. If you don't like or apprecite the chatter in a certain thread, you don't have to read it. If a thread fails to explore a particular area of interest, then start your own thread. All I would expect of anyone one here is civility and a modicum of sensitivity.

Excuse me, what do you really mean by lack of sensitivity ?
I don't understand your point, maybe I'm thick ?
Millions of people are having difficulties in todays climate, hunger, war, illness, unemployed, refugees etc..
Most of them are not buying 555 psu

I do agree in most what you wrote apart from, that I think I do have posted in a civil manner
Also commenting as I did should not be seen as negative sensitivity, rather quite neutral
My point was not to insult OP or anyone and I can't really get to, how you sum it up this way.
We have the hifi corner and music room for all of us enjoying music, Padded cell for other topics.

I wouldn't dream of calling you thick. The lack of sensitivity is in respect of your peremptory dismissal of HH's life threatening accident, the details of which he chose to share with us. I'm fully aware of the Third World issues (and those nearer home) to which you refer, but your attempt to weave them into a thread in a hifi forum is crass and infantile.
I'm guessing from your grammar and vocabulary that English may not be your first language (details on your profile would, of course, remove the guesswork). My interpretation of what you have written may be unintentionally critical, but I'm sure you get my (and the others who have responded in a similar vein) drift. Let's just leave it at that, shall we, and get back to discussing the wonderful Naim gear that brought us here in the first place.

What are we going back to the school yard again and all join in bashing someone who has enough individuality to express how he feels, I'd rather his honesty than some of the pychophantic nonsense some of you post.

Great with some support for my view of things

Quite right. I agree.
If some members want to talk about turntables then one of them should start a thread on that, which would be more appropriate than taking another thread and being rude about what people are already discussing there.

It’s actually sycophantic, which nobody is being, simply being friendly and supportive. If people don’t like it, don’t read it, and perhaps find somewhere else to be unpleasant. If people find hifi morevinteresting than life, or want to walk around with chips on their shoulder, then that’s fine.

The fact you ask David to explain says it all.

oK. So rather than telling us that here in HH's thread, go and do whatever does interest you somewhere else.

Moderating: Per, considering I already had to remove one of your posts on here which caused offence, don't you think it's perhaps best to walk away now and let others continue their conversation on this thread rather than you keep digging further?

Nigel, suggest you ignore the forum at the moment and enjoy your holiday.
Reading this nonsense will only irritate.

It's actually more interesting but lets not split hairs and I for one do not have a chip on my shoulder nor would I be posting on a hifi forum whilst on I was on holiday I would hope I would be enjoying myself too much to bother.
Well and truly in the school playground it would appear, no chips in evidence, just forests! I'd like to make it clear I'm not on holiday (unless you count being retired as one long one!).
We have eaten the most wonderful risotto with white truffles, drunk a fantastic Lombardian white wine, and a grappa that was perhaps unwise, and everything seems rather wonderful. The U.K. and its weird desire to become a small island eating turnips seems a world away, yet returning to our home in a lovely place with a stereo made by a passionate company seems rather alluring. Home, holiday, holiday, home, what difference does it make? It makes none. Buona notte.

Me thinks the Lobardian white is kicking in. Back to a beautifully crafted real ale soon. Could be worse.
Cheers!
BTW, why on earth are we talking about wine and turnips, this is a hifi forum for goodness sake!
