Naim App 5.8.2 on iOS 9.3.5 crashes selecting UPnP

Posted by: noname on 21 October 2017

For a while now I have dedicated on old iPad to run the Naim App in our main listening area. It runs iOS 9.3.5.

The latest update to the App takes it to 5.8.2 and the App Store description states that it requires iOS 9.3 or later.

However, immediately on selecting UPnP input to any of my devices/rooms this latest version of the App crashes. I have no problem selecting UpNP with the same App version on other iPads/iPhones which are running iOS 11.0.3.

My devices/rooms include a Uniti Atom, a Mu-so, a Mu-so Qb, and a fully-upgraded original Uniti. I am using the Atom with an attached USB drive as the UPnP server.

Does anyone else out there have a similar combination to 5.8.2/9.3.5 they are using or could test before I report this to Naim on Monday?

Thanks

Roger

Thanks for the quick response. So it might be relevant to know please what you are using as the UPnP server

Unitiserve and Minimserver both working OK.

There were no reports of this app crashing during beta testing at all that I remember and some beta testers certainly use IOS 9.3.5 (I can think of a couple immediately).

Have you tried restarting the ipad? And also it might be worth deleting and reinstalling the app from the App Store as that will clear out any corrupted data that has snuck in there. I don't think which upnp server you use is going to be relevant at all.

I have an iPad Mini (rev-1) with 16GB 9.3.5 & it runs 5.8.2 & beta 5.8.2 (the same app) just fine - its been pretty well rock solid since the 5.8 series of apps.    Have you tried deleting the app,  force restarting the iOS (this clears RAM & links with errors)  & re-installing a new copy of app???

I need a new iPad sooner rather than later,  the iOS 9.3 limit is causing problems with ability to run some apps, & I believe the next round of Naim apps will be such a problem.   Although I would really like to stay with the 'Mini' sized iPad,  the latest Mini-4 has an A8 processor & although its 64bit ARM & will run iOS 11,  I get the impression thats the end of the iPad 'Mini' line.    To stay as far ahead of the Apple obsolescence plan as possible,  I've just bit the bullet & ordered a new iPad 9.7" it has an A9 processor which has 70% more CPU & 90% more graphics compared to A8.    Due to arrive Monday, that'll be fun.

Yes, even though I now have it working I realise that I will have to move on soon. My own iPad is a Pro and as I use it for lots of things it is currently very frustrating that the Naim App does not work properly with slide-over (reported elsewhere). I was initially assured this would be fixed in 5.8 but since told it has been delayed until 6.0.
