Core firmware
Posted by: jon h on 21 October 2017
any timescale on core firmware which shows rip status correctly? It feels it’s dragging on.
Jon, it's probably a question only Naim can answer for you.
A firmware with enhanced metadata indexing and editing capabilities too.

I was wondering if it was even in beta yet
I would have thought that an e-mail to Phil and his merry men would answer that. Delighted with my Core so any firmware enhancements will be icing on what is a very good cake.
I’m waiting for firmware before I take it back out of its box.
If it doesn’t happen soon it shall be relegated to the same role that JV had for the linn preamp: as a door stop to keep his office door open.
Wry smile
Don't let it rip the door then.

don’t rip a passing cat too....or a mouth.

Or not.
“Other features like metadata for composer, conductor for example are in the release planning.”
27th June posting by Trevor. Still no sign of it. (I don’t get betas any more but I doubt it’s in there)
an old Irish saying: “when god made time he made a lot of it”.
Naim just posted an update in the Uniti progress thread, Core new firmware now scheduled for December release, now being tested for bugs. Addresses ripping information, formatting etc.
I haven't really had a major issue with the Core. I've just finished ripping my entire CD collection (832 albums) and very few needed manually editing (4) or album covers doing myself (30).
One thing I have noticed is that sometimes the CD drive is noisy and spins faster? Ripping speed doesn't seem to alter. Also some album tracks have taken a very long time with the CD 'hunting'. Have yet to have a failure ripping any though.
The app is a little clunky - IMO if you 'register' a Core with an Atom you shouldn't need to keep going through the Server to pick tracks. Creating playlists are my biggest problem - Sonos has a much better user interface.
I gave up with playlists, it would seem to add the tracks when it felt like it or not. I presume the noise from the odd cd is due to the disc weight or dimensions being slightly out?

how do you know? have you listened to each cd?

In time for its first birthday.
I gave up ... stick to my QNAP NAS with MinimServer running ... traded the Core and the Uniti Atom for a Nova
No advanced metadata editing capability yet?

Looks like metadata editing for classical music won’t happen in this build. I doubt now that it will ever happen to be honest.

Checksum for each album is correct.
I've had a couple of rips with glitches in them on playback but no report of a problem when they were ripped. I don't know where to see the checksum for a CD or whether it agrees with the rip but sort of assumed the rip would fail if it didn't match so either the checksum system isn't all it's cracked up to be or there's a "sod it that'll do" algorithm in the case where it doesn't.
I thought it was well understood now that current core firmware and app tells you that the rip is perfect even if it isnt?
Not universally, but that’s two more who are now aware of it.
