NAC N272 volume control problem?

Posted by: Henk Molenaar on 22 October 2017

When increasing/decreasing the volume of my (new) 272 there is, simultaneously with the increasing/deacreasing figures showed on the 272 display, an "electric click" into the woofer from the RH speaker produced ......It starts at higher volumes ( 25 and higher).  Anyone familiar with this phenomenon??   (Configuration: N272 with XP5XS and NAP250DR).  Thank you in advance!!

My volume control is totally silent. If new I would get it checked out by the dealer

Our 272 started doing this after ~ 3 months from new. It turned out to be a fault which was expertly taken care of by Naim under warranty. You may have the same issue. Does it all happen when you mute/unmute?

Thanks for your reply .   No nothing to do with mute/unmute. I switched off the XP5XS power supply, disconnected/connected the Burndy cable on both sides and the problems seems to be over.....Hopefully it's over for ever.....

Thanks again to everybody for his/her reply!

Hope it works for you although I can't see that has anything to do with your symptoms which I suspect will return. Let us know ...

HI Henk - I don't know exactly what the problem was beyond a fault with the digital volume control circuitry. My understanding is that a whole printed circuit board was replaced. Yes, it did have to be returned to the factory for repair.

Unfortunate but your symptoms are exactly as mine were. The good news though is that Naim did an excellent job and returned it in first class condition. It took a few weeks, I think maybe 2 or 3 although I can't be sure. Frustrating but that's life. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Henk - I would have thought if this is brand new, then the dealer should be able to swap your faulty 272 for a new 272. You shouldn't have to have this sent off for repair this early in its life and wait for it to be returned.

Dear newnaim16, thanks again!!, i will discuss it with the dealer....hopfully not a to big operation, because i am impressed by the sound quality of the 272 (even with 320 kb radio paradise!).
