HiFi+ review of Uniti Nova and Core - very positive

My mag arrived today and Alan Sircom likes the new range a great deal - sadly his cat disapproves!
Let the Core rip the Cat!
Chag -
it wont get the meta/name right

He could put some cat treats in the rim around the volume control - the cat could lick it clean to keep the dust out - then again might cause havoc with random volume levels
Was too tight or lazy to dead in WHS. Just saw Naim post in Twitter of the article.
Very good review and well deserved praise.
AS my 2nd Nova settles in its more Supernova than the last, id estimate another two weeks to stable so it will only get better.
Feel for all the Superuniti peeps reading the article

it will transform the cat into dog
I've just read through the Hi-Fi+ review and it is glowingly enthusiastic. As described, even performing well in the context of the mega mullet system with the 20K Wilson Audio Duette II speakers. Classic series Uniti owners wanting to upgrade now have interesting choices, and agree wholeheartedly with the observations the new case design brings Naim bang up to date in terms of styling. It has certainly got me thinking about options for my 'Qute2 replacement - initially bought as a streaming gateway (there's no going back!).

Just an idle wonder but given the Nova digitalises analogue inputs, would it be possible to write a "phono stage" in software to run in the digital domain? Just connect a turntable direct? Or would it be too difficult to impedence match the input to cartridge output? If it's not obvious I'm over-reaching my electronics knowledge here!

It can be done - Devialet do this in their amplifiers. For the Phono input, the RIAA equalisation is done in the digital domain and cartridge loading is done by the user with a configuration file.
For the Nova it may not be that easy (before even considering the software effort) - it depends on how sensitive the analogue inputs are as these are more likely to be designed for a conventional source component rather than the low output of a cartridge. Additionally (IIRC) the Nova can only digitise the analogue signal at 48Khz so this may limit ultimate quality here too.
A question for Naim
The sensitivity of the analogue inputs can be set. In the current firmware the choices are listed as 0.5V, 1V, 2.5V, 6.5V (with descriptions). That's a couple of orders of magnitude for 5mV for MM cartridges, so it's doubtful as we already have one order (+ a bit) going from 0.5V to 6.5V . Love to be proved wrong though
Oh, and my cats agree. They get close enough to get fur attracted to the front plate, but no closer.
How are you supposed to clean out that front - back groove without leaving a pile of dust at one end or the other ?
Vacuum? Naim, followed by Cats..
