Headline NAHA-2 RCA
Posted by: stimmy on 28 October 2017
Hi Guys,
looking for some more advice please, in my current setup I have a flat cap xs powering my 152/155 pre & power and an original flat cap (not xs) powering my cd5xs, I would like to add a headphone amp and have seen a headline NAHA-2 rca for sale, will my origin flat cap (not the flat cap xs) power this ok and would I need a Slic cable? Also is this the old version of the headline and does anyone have experience of sound quality-I’ve just brought some Audeze LCD-XC headphones
appreciate any advice

Stimmy, the NAHA 2 is the later (current) Headline, so good news, it's the better of the two. The RCA version should be fine with the NAC-152xs - just use the RCA phono line out.
Your Flatcap, if an original, can only power one item, however, it could be used to power the Headline if used with a SLIC lead.
I haven't tried the Audeze LCD-XC headphones but recently tried some Hifiman HE-400i Planar phones on the Headline and it worked really well.
Hi Richard,
you’re a gentleman as ever, appreciate the advice

Hi Richard,
Sorry to trouble you, I’ve just brought the headline but looking at the picture from the seller there is a power connection at the rear for a Slic inter connector so I assume i must need a Slic inter connector, I assume the unit wouldn’t power up from just the rca connectors?

Stimmy, yes, there's a two pole locking connector socket on the back - this takes either a NAPSC with its captive 2 pole lead, or a bigger Naim PSU such as a Flatcap, Hicap or Supercap combined with a SLIC lead (DIN5 - 2 pole plug). The signal cable just carries signal.
Cheers Richard, i’ll order a Slic inter connector then, so I will need to plug the din connector into my flat cap (will this go into the din socket that was powering the cd5xs?) and will I need to alter anything with how I’ve currently got my CD player connected or is it simply a case of taking the power lead off the cd, this naim gear is so complicated to plum up lol

Stimmy, if you're taking the Flatcap off the CD5xs then you should power everything down, remove the SNAIC connected between the CD5xs and Flatcap, replace the link plug into the upgrade socket on the back of the CD5xs, connect the SLIC from the headline to the DIN5 socket on the Flatcap. Connect the Headline RCA phonos to the pre-out on the NAC-152xs. Double check your connections and then when you're happy, Power up.
Thanks Richard, you need a degree in rocket science to understand all this lot, just hope i’ve Got the right link plug, I know I’ve got a link plug but there are different kinds!
Thanks again, I’ll let you know how I get on!

Hi Richard,
just been giving my setup some thought, I’m sure my flat cap is a flat cap x2 although it’s not an xs Model I’m sure it will still power two items so this should make life easier, I won’t be able to tell until a friend helps me pull my unit out, it’s so heavy, I can’t wait for the headline to arrive

If it's a Flatcap2 or 2x then yes, it can power 2 items.
Cool, I’m sure it is, thanks again for your time and advice.

Hi Richard,
Could I trouble you to elaborate on what makes the NAHA-2 better than the original? Does the black one have as much prat as the olive version? Just curious as I recently bought an olive one, primarily because it’s a cosmetic match to my 72/hicap/250 and because I like the sound of that era. It sounds amazing. However, I have never heard the black version.
Thanks,
Nile
Nile, there were various improvements made to the NAHA2 - a superior volume pot, and greater drive ability being the two main things that improved.

And the original olive is pretty d@mn good - especially with a Hicap - into Sennheiser 650s
Currently running mine with a NAPSC*, and it has certainly lost “something”.
*coz the HC got kidnapped to be the second PSU for my 82.

Ah yes, the less said about the olive NAHA’s pot the better!
Just a quick update to say my headline is up and running now and I’m loving the sound quality in conjunction with my Audeze LCD-XC headphones, thanks for your help and advice guys ????
