warm XPS

Posted by: davidf on 31 October 2017

I have an Olive xps- it has always been warm to the touch compared to my other olive boxes- 135s, supercap, 52, 01 and 01 power supply.  Has not been serviced for awhile but even after service it was always warmer than other boxes.  Any thoughts? concerns?

I have an XPS2 and it, like all power supplies does get warm.

Sounds fairly normal to me.  However, if the XPS gets hot - i.e. too hot to comfortably touch - then that may indicate a problem.

The transformer in the olive xps was borrowed from supercap. In the supercap 40v is dropped to 24v. In the olive xps some of the supplies are dropped from 40v to 10v. Increased voltage drop equals increase in temp. Plus, some of the circuits supplied are digital, which draw more current.

thanks to all- xps warm but not hot , supercap cool in comparison.

So I guess I am ok?
