PowerLines

Quick question about moving from a Hydra style, single socket, power solution to using PowerLines.

I only have 1 socket free near the rack so, do i run an extension gang and then PL off that ? or do I need to get more sockets installed to make the PL investment worthwhile ?

Thanks

Breaking the wall and installing other sockets is always better but the roof may fall on the rack and the PLs become rather useless. Alternative indeed is to use a quality mains block, often with the mains of the block manufacturer to the wall (Nordost, Supra...) and PLs only off the block to the boxes. Sometimes, but not always, a PL to the wall as well will work.

Use a gang and you can even run a powerline to it but you now enter the realm of plug order unless you find one that is star everything. Assuming you don’t there are two schools of thought, one puts the power amp next to the input cable the other prioritises source, particularly the source that provides the signal earth. This latter I find integrates the music better on my chain connected block, others prefer the greater separation of the power amp first arrangement. If you can’t be bothered with all that I think Poweregel do a version of their distribution system using Powerlines.

Of the hifi targeted blocks the music works lite is rated, I tried the Ultra and prefered my home made block but the lite was fairly similar. I like the look of the Heretic Audio Copperstar but haven’t tried it and there’s another for nearer a ton that’s rated by some but I can’t remember the name of it.

If you need to add more sockets, have you considered putting in a dedicated mains supply with its own consumer unit? This will probably cost less than the price of a Powerline, for what many of us have found to be a big upgrade.

Thanks everyone for the input. Helps move decision forward.

Ultimately - a dedicted spur, with enough sockets to plug all your Naim boxes directly.

I am very happy with one Furutech socket and a Netzleiste-PLUS.
