HiCap Regulator Question

Posted by: mikeybaby on 01 November 2017

I just opened my Olive Hicap to find the original LM317 regulators have been removed along with the with the green circuit board they were attached to. In their place are two different looking regs. One is a small black square that reads 47JZ LM 317T  P+  and a 2nd reg that is on a small thin green circuit board that I cant read. It does say Ultra Low noise 78XX. The Hicap sounds reasonable --no distortion normal bass and treble but should I be concerned? Should both regs be the same? Is one reg for each channel? Also should I put the original Naim regs back in since I have a set?

I’d suggest that you ask Naim directly. Other things may have been changed that you are unaware of. If it does need fixing, Class A in Sheffield is your best bet.

Where did you send it for 'servicing' - if it's not Naim or Class A then who knows (i could take a good guess) what has been fitted. Modifications can't be discussed here.

Mikeybaby, as HH suggests above, it's best you contact Naim's service dept. and take it from there.  If it has been modified at some point then they can return your Hicap to factory spec along with a proper service.

I bought the HC used. My question is still unanswered. Is it  one regulator per channel?

The Hicap provides 2 x 24V DC, so one regulator each.  The LM317s are carefully selected and then matched at the factory.

Get it back to factory spec.

I'm closing this thread.  Please note that discussion of Naim kit that has had unauthorised modifications falls well outside of forum AUP. Thanks.
