CD5X to Supernait 2 cable question

Posted by: Kimbleman on 05 November 2017

Hi chaps.

Just brought a lovely second hand supernait 2 to partner a CD5X.

Now my question is, can anybody help on what sort of snaic I need to connect the two units?? I think it's a five pin to five pin but looking online there seems to be a 270 and 180 degree pin configuration??? For the moment I have been using a Din to RCA cable I had in a drawer (Din out of the CD5X into RCA pair into the Supernait) but I'd like to partner the two up 'properly' as I assume I'm not getting the benefits of the common earth connection??

Also... For a few years (don't laugh) I have been using a B&O Beocentre 9500 to feed a beautiful pair of Celestion Ditton 44 speakers. Last night I replaced this using the naim combination above. In almost all aspects the reproduction is superior (as I would have expected) but one slight letdown is I seem to be missing maybe half an octave down in the bass area. Really noticeable on a favourite Jameraqui track off the Rock dust light star album where there is a particularly good bass line (it really makes the track a standout one for me) which just didn't seem to be there in quite the same forceful way as before. So.....same source material (Jay Kay) same speakers (position unmoved, same cables) so is the slight bass lightness due to the amp or CD player?? Would a Flatcap 2X improve things bass wise?? Don't get me wrong....the overwhelming improvement in just about every other respect more than compensates.

Thanks chaps.

Garry.

You need a 5 pin to 5 pin standard interconnect, not a Snaic. In fact, there should be an interconnect in the CD player’s box. They cost £115 if bought separately, I believe.

Thanks Mr. Halibut. That's five pins 180 degree each end (not 270) I take it?

Cheers Gaz

Yes, 180. All interconnects are like that. The 270 applies  to the Snaics.

Have a read of the FAQ which also shows what all the various Naim cables look like.

Hi Richard and thank you all. Just pulled the loft apart and found the old (genuine naim) cable.....which did indeed come with the unit! So happy days.....cable in place, Paul Weller now playing better than ever.

Yes, the proper Naim cables make quite a difference.

The standard 'lavender' interconnect is a serious cable and not just some cheapo "get you going" piece of tin plated string!
That's not to say it can't be improved on...    but better replacements either cost quite a bit or are DIY jobs.
