Let's not kid ourselvelves about our hobby  ;-)

Can the SN2 be divided into pre and power amps in use like the SN could?

If so a NAC282, your HCDR and your SN2 used as a power amp could be excellent as an interim measure before the arrival of a NAP250.

I recently acquired a 282 going from a 202 which I really liked - the main difference for me is soundstage and detail which take a leap forward without losing anything else. I found the 202 (with hicapdr and napsc) a big jump on the supernait so I think you'd be on the right path. Your source is definitely up to the job as well.

I would aim at going straight to 252 if not to 552 from SN2, especially with classical music. But it is true that some would prefer the presentation of the 282.

Yes but expense of supercap and difference between  282 and 252 is high.

Financially that might make sense, if you work on the theory that you will eventually end up there. However, for those of us with limited funds, there is great excitement in planning each upgrade. Jumping to the end would actually spoil it for me!

Excuse me.... or possibly a serviced 52?

Sorry, no, stick with the 282 which looks and is more modern. Yet...

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread: I had a 282 for some years and liked it. But its inputs are too sensitive for nowadays' sources IMHO, and my particular 282 sometimes didn't let me switch the input buttons (even after return to naim). Eventually I sold it and now happily own a 272.

You are in for a treat Johnny5 I have never purchased new except a UQ2 so I don't know exact time scale but I believe there is some burn in time involved so perhaps be patient but rest assured  you have just purchased a fantastic amplifier and one that will give you a whole lot of pleasure.

I am amazed at how good the 282/SuperCap DR combination is. Admittedly I have a 300 DR, some amazing speakers, full SL loom and a setup that gives all the power supplies and brain boxes lots of space.

If I had known what I know now I might have worked more on the setup and spacing before dealing with SL loom, better speakers, and 250 DR to 300 DR. The comments on the 252 suggest it is better if somewhat polite compared with the 282. The recent spacing change make each instrument’s note sound as it would live with natural persistence and sharpness. The instruments and voices are clearly separated.

I can imagine that the 552 could improve on what I now have, but I have found no music in a largish collection of vinyl and CD that disappoints, which was the case before the spacing changes. So I am a fan of the 282 which offers amazing VFM and a good upgrade path such as the one I followed. If followed as I have there is no reason to move beyond it.
