Expensive Cables. Are they worth the Money?

Posted by: wenger2015 on 12 November 2017

Back in March this year I auditioned TQ Black Diamond Speaker Cables, they turned out to be extremely impressive.

To cut a long story short I ended up, after a lengthy home audition, purchasing a Brand new set of the top of the range Silver Diamond Speaker Cables.

Although they sounded good from the start, I have experienced a few lows from time to time over the weeks and months but gradually they have just got better and better.

It’s been approximately 6 months now and ‘Wow’.....they are altogether on an another level, truly remarkable.....

So if anyone is contemplating the possibility of treating oneself to an Xmas gift and was wondering if these High End Cables are truly worth the significant outlay, rest assured in this case, with TQ SD they most certainly are.

The exceptional reviews are no exaggeration. (eg hi fi pig )

I personally think in our enthusiasm to upgrade the boxes it’s the Cables we often compromise on.

Cables can provide a clear conduit to maximise the performance from whatever black boxes we have.

So has anyone made plans to splash out and upgrade the cables over the festive season?

You are living in a completely different world.

The essence of an audiophile is being constantly frustrated, confused, insecure and unhappy, all that with an extremely fragile ego, creating the right conditions for endless-useless upgrades with no time left to be wasted on listening to real music. There is no way around it. If this doesn't sound familiar then you are just not a member of our brilliant cult..

Oh dear, I’m clearly not an audiophile ‘cos I love to listen to and immerse myself in beautiful music with no distractions, hifi being my means to that end. I have tended to get it set up then forget about change for a few years, which is clearly not audiophile behaviour. Perhaps  I’m a a goodsoundophile combined with a musicophile...

Anyone with a ratio of 100:1 (or higher) in posting on the HI Fi Corner VS the Music Room is an honorary member of the cult I mentioned before, and again: no way around it, the rest you can tell to the audiophile police.

Guilty as charged! I don't post there as I can't stand Photobucket but do have a look and take notes as to what people are listening to, though I think there's better resources for that (Audiostream has been great discovering new music for example).

yes, i didn’t understood first it was ironic.  He described a sort of audiophile dementia.  But there is some truth behind irony.....

The TQ silver Diamond won't hum.

I don't mind what colour your native  language is, and I don't think it excludes a sense of humour.

Besides which I think coppery is a much more interesting colour than irony!

And you can always put it in your pocket and take it with you in a hurry if need be. Probably useless for grappling though...

Just been reading a review on the Atlas Asimi Speaker cables.

Very impressive.

Has anyone had opportunity to hear them in action?

Ouch, they’re an eye water price Wenger!

Maybe our dealer will have a set we can hear on our next visit?

We will have to put them on our list.....

I would think they will be ideal for the statement

I’m still contemplating upgrading from my current Chord Epic Reference speaker cables. However I like what the do.

Any other Epic Reference users out there that have compared alternatives?

Posted on: 16 December 2017 by wenger2015

The epic reference has some good reviews, that said if you want a real step up it’s certainly worth auditioning either TQ ultra blacks or Super Lumina

The 5M SL speaker cables I’ve been demoing are staying.  Always a good sign when one can listen longer (especially to digital music) and with a greater sense of engagement.

Expensive wires may or may not be worth the money but they can’t be worth the debate

But debate costs nothing except time, and for a fair proportion of people time is easier to find than money...

I think this comment is worthy of further discussion….

Congrats on that Hook. If they work for you and you find them worth the cost, that's all that really matters.

Without expensive cables your system might just sound like a collection of expensive boxes.

We want unity and the revolution will be cablized.

Although not massively expensive in the grand scheme of audiophile cables I was very recently convinced to buy some Rega Duets (copper) over the original QED Silver Anniversary cables i had.

Having got them home I couldn't honestly say they sound any 'better' or particularly different - i'm aware of the claim that silver is more toppy.

For comparison buying some Atacama Isolation Gel Pads to stick on my speaker stands gave me more of a sense of perceived improvement to the overall sound than the new cables did and cost £19.99. Funny how things work out.

That’s one reason why a home dem is necessary, in fact most dealers are happy to let you try before you buy.

Well I've just added a full loom Chord Music to my CD555, PS555DR, NAC552DR, NAP300DR, Sonus Faber Guarneri Tradition.  4 Music Power cables, phono interconnect, DIN-XLR and 3.5m speaker cables. Stunning results, utterly stunning. If you've listened and you're not impressed, feel free to comment. But if you've not and have a blind spot about not wanting to believe a cable(s) can sound as good as a black box upgrade don't bother because you're not qualified to comment.

Bryce, having the last two S/L cables installed three weeks ago to complete the full S/L loom I must agree something rather special they just seem to get the best out of the Black Boxes.
