System “fettling”

As I have a Hi-fi Racks Ltd solid oak rack, I spent today stripping down my system and tightening all the spikes and rack legs (and dusting!). This meant swapping rack legs around such that the front legs are square to the shelves that they support when the legs are fully tightened. I also swapped the NAP 250 with the 555PS such that the 555PS is now on the bottom shelf of my full-width rack.

Let’s just say that the system needed the rebuild as it sounds sublime tonight: PR&T much better and the system sounds more involving. Also, it’s easier to hear subtle details such as singers’ tongues clicking on the roof of their mouths.

i had the same experience as you today: i moved away the 555dr from the nds( on another rack).   The sound is more lively , with more clarity and better bass definition.  You took away also your 555ps from the 272.   Curious that i have not had this idea before....

French Rooster,

I think the sound quality improvement was just as much due to the general housekeeping as swapping the 555PS and the NAP 250.

The NAP 250 also has a massive transformer, which will probably have an impact on the N272.
