Cd 5 (2004)

Posted by: vilco on 13 November 2017

Hello to all,

after about many years of perfect operation (never a leap during reading, never an uncertainty, never a mistake) my Naim Cd5 suddenly stopped working.

The player lights up, insert the cd, close the block on which the cd is located, but the disc is not read (dashes appear on the display).

I tried with several cds, turn it off, turn it on, clean the lens, but I did not solve anything, it seems hopelessly gone: I have the impression that the drive does not turn the CD reading (I do not feel the noise of the rotation of the CD, once the door is closed).

Some advice to give me before sending it to service assist.

Thank You

Vilco, has it been moved recently?  It sounds like the tiny magnet that triggers the mech to wake up as the door is closed may have come adrift somehow.  Do you have a small magnet?  You can place a CD on the spindle with clamp, then place the little magnet near the microswitch on the tray and see if the mech spins up.  Be warned though - don't look at the mech or disc as stray laser light can damage sight.  If in doubt, speak with Naim's service dept.

OK, then it may have taken a shock in  which case the tiny magnet may have come loose.  That would be my first suspicion and thing to check out.
