Atom / Mu-so multiroom STILL not working?

Posted by: Hemmendorff on 13 November 2017

I got my Atom (after almost a years delay) this august, and while very happy with the unit itself, i was disappointed to find that the multiroom with my mu-so didn't work.

I posted a thread on it here: https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...-multi-room-problems

I learned that this was a problem with the mu-so not being up to date with the atoms multiroom protocol.

Three months later the problem remains the same. Anyone has any ideas? Has naim just given up on mu-so?

There have been other recent threads too on this outstanding issue - such as https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...om-muso-qb-multiroom

The MD of Naim last posted publicly on this in the Uniti Update thread on 6th September saying

I am aware that questions are being asked on when multiroom will be enabled from the Uniti to the Mu-so range and our other networked players.  It is a priority for us and we are working as quickly as we can to ensure it is stable and the sound quality is where it should be.

I will update you as soon as I have more news.

I have made my own direct contact with Naim on this - and I urge you to do the same - but It seems that although claimed as a priority issue for them they have so far not been able to resolve these sound quality and stability problems.

Thank you Roger! It's good to hear they're making it a priority, seeing how they're marketing these products explicitly as "multiroom", it should indeed be a priority...

I followed your advice and contacted them directly as well. Let's hope we have a solution soon.

You may already know this, but it seems that multiroom is possible between Muso and Atom as long as you initiate it from the Muso end. It works from my Qbs to my Nova, and I'm pretty sure on other threads it was confirmed it works from full-width Musos and to Atom as well.

Yes and no, it kind of works. The mu-so does find the Atom but it's hardly useable. The first connection always fails. The second one works (but the atom is set to 0 volume until you change volume), and the connection only lasts for a few minutes. After 3-5 minutes the Atom just stops playing.

Ah right, I only experimented with setting up the connections, I didn't do any serious listening, when I'm using multiroom it tends to be from the NDX in  the main lounge rather than the Nova in the upstairs one (the usage pattern will change a bit once I finish redecorating the upstairs room). Sorry if I gave you a bad steer.

And another “yes but” is that one of the advances with the new Uniti range was supposed to be support for initiating Multiroom from all sources including the digital input (but excluding Airplay)
