XS 2 - Help!
Posted by: petzhou on 15 November 2017
Hi I decided to changfe my XS to and XS2. Bought from a well known web site. On arrival it is in an XS2 box but just shows as XS on rear. The serial number is 290787 - which is back to 2010 on Naim check list.
Have I been done?
Appreciate any comments.
Many thanks
You need to be careful here. It can be a bit confusing with the NAIT XS; there's a Naim NAIT XS-2, which was a cosmetic update to the original NAIT XS with a revised anodised aluminium fascia, and only says XS-2 on the packaging, still NAIT XS on the rear panel. And then there's the NAIT XS 2, which is an updated and improved NAIT XS and says NAIT XS 2 on the rear panel.
As always features and the serial number tell you what you have; most obviously a headphone amp and socket on the improved XS 2 in place of the front panel input.
If you feel you have been mis-sold then you should take it up with the seller. I assume there is some form of recourse if bought through an online site.
Many thanks Richard.
I picked up on an earlier community thread highlighting this.

Peter
Lesson learned!
Seller has agreed a full refund.
Great news!
And btw the way what on earth were you doing thinking that that mighty NAIT XS could be surpassed?! Treason, I say!!
Hi Christopher. I am actually running an XS and Flatcap 2x. I just had a sudden urge to change and thought the xs2 may have been an obvious upgrade.( though I have never actually heard an xs 2!)
I think I will probably stick with what I have and think in terms of an SN2.
The original XS takes a bit of beating IMO. But these days it's all Unity this and Unity that, and we don't hear about it that much.
Good luck whatever you decide.

If it's a 2010 production, I'd bet money it's an XS-2. The 60 wpc XS-2 never had "XS-2" on the rear panel.

I'd stick with the one you got, adding a Powerline would be a huge upgrade

According to my dealer, the only meaningfulful upgrade from the XS2 (new version) is the SN2. I guess the story is not much different when starting with an XS...Get a SN2, and I bet you will be a happy bunny. The only question is for how long -- before the urge to upgrade bits again...
